Coranth taught a "philosophy and metaphysics" class at MIT for young people. I attended - I must have been in junior high. He told us his story, of how he'd left his past and identity behind in a radical way, starting his new identity as C. d'G. His was the strangest story I'd heard at that young age. He shared what he knew of metaphysics with us (as well as more strange stories from his own life), and really listened to us kids. I have clearer memories of that class than I do of much else during that time. He opened my eyes to what we can do with our personal freedoms.

I decided to look up some old friends from summer camp in the early-80's only to find out Chester had passed and I was too late. Everyone that knew him loved him. He was a good friend. He was fun to be around. I'm sorry we lost touch.

I met and worked with Coranth at Hiway Technologies in Boca Raton, I got such a good vibe from him, he was someone special in some way. After Hiway, I would email him every year or 2 and check up on things. This year I discovered this story....

We were friends in college. I never knew until I read his "Eulogy for a Traveler." I wish that we had had more time for the talks that we shared in school and that I've remembered ever since.

We were childhood friends. Why is this so hard for me to understand.
I lost contact after High School. I will miss you deeply. This is the best journey you will ever experince.

It sad when people don't notice the pain someone has via their posts on YA.
The harshness a person shows in YA posts can mean they need help.
Some people insist they know it all. They then choose to leave life.

My name is Matthew. I’m a brother of Coranth’s. I’d like to thank everyone for their kind words. It’s been a comfort to my parents and I to read so many heart felt responses to his passing. Thank You again.

Chet was one of the most sincere people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Even in school, he was wise well beyond his years. He once wrote "All he wanted was to bring value to people's lives. And that is what he would want you to remember of him -- just the good times. Love him and remember him, for who he was, and who he wanted to be.". And we will.
Best wishes on your next journey, my friend...

I encountered Coranth on Yahoo, also. I'm a scholar of English literature, and Cory was one of the most unique, intense, and interesting people I've ever met in my life. What a loss.
Rest in peace, brother. You will be missed, and remembered.

Like the rest of the posters, I admired his work on YA. He was a good guy, smart beyond belief, thoughtful and reasoned. I didn't always agree with him, but I did always respect his opinion and admired his temperment.

Coragryph... May you Rest in Perpectual Peace. My Sympathies to your parents and all those that loved you.
Like many I knew Coragryph, through the Yahoo Q&A forum, but his insightful, clever, well reasoned stance to every question brought civility to a generally uncivilized place. He enjoyed many top answers from me. You were missed hence the reason I am here, two months after your passing.

We were of different political stripes in many ways, twins in others. Our every exchange was/is memorable. His web page and his writings are quite brilliant.
His was a steadfast honourable insightful soul and we can only know that he is stirring up stimulating debate somewhere else now.
In a world of dumbed down humanity, he was a delightful change. I, for one, am grateful that our paths crossed.
To all who loved him ... his family... his loved ones... please accept my commiserations.

I only knew Coranth as Coragryph from Yahoo Answers, like everyone else who has signed so far.
How would I even begin to describe how much he touched the lives of people who never met him?
I always admired him, for his tolerance, compassion, and intelligence. Sometimes we disagreed, but he was always respectful.
When I was harassed by a group of people over a year ago, Coragryph was one of the few who stood up for me, someone who's nearly his polar opposite politically.
This is just a small example of what type of person he was.
My condolences are with his family and friends who knew him personally. If he's half the person he showed himself to be to us, his family's loss is very profound indeed.
Greetings from Baumholder, Germany.

One the best minds on Yahoo! Answers. We will miss his presence there and will remember him for as long as we can. I never met him in person but I butted heads with him once but he quickly set our differences straight in a personal email. It was mostly he that helped me LISTEN to other's opinions before blowing my top. I'll miss you "Coragryph".

I only knew him from Yahoo Answers, but he was a great man. He always spoke his mind with respect for people of opposing viewpoints on the YA politics section, and always tried to help students who wanted information on politcs for homework. Many people on Yahoo Answers looked up to him, he was an example to follow. He was truly a great man, and my prayers and condolences are with his family

Your family deserves to know that you were a strong presence and positive force with people who never even met you. On Yahoo! Answers you were a model of keen insight, reason, and intelligence with a welcome instinct for gentle and respectful expression of your views. Dare I say you educated a good number of people through your participation.
I hope you have found the peace you've been seeking.

I also have been graced by your calm presence on Y!A Politics. It seems almost unfathomable that such a light is quiet at so young an age. My prayers to the beloved family & friends. He must have been even more powerful & special in real life. For we just play in cyber space here.
Where ever he calls home, may he sleep with the angels. And us mortals shall forever remember how he touched our lives. Some how he enlighten us with each stroke of the keyboard. He set a bar that few can even address. He'll be sorely missed.
Thank you for letting us be a part of the celebration and indeed great sorrow. God Bless you all. Kimberly

I miss you. My heart goes out to your family and loved ones. This indeed is a sad moment for me. I would like to thank you for your kind and informative words and the time that you took to share with all of us. If your demeanor in YA reflects your demeanor in life, you would have been a great friend to have, as well as a wonderful and inspiring soul to know. I hope that your family knows how much your presence was felt within our forum. May your family heal from this terrible loss, over the passage of time. Goodbye my friend. I look forward to seeing you again. You are truly missed…

My Dear Gryphon,
Peace be with you in your journey, for it is not over, not for a long time. Your spirit is strong and your passion and love stronger. I love your energy, such a beautiful aura - of calm, of strength, of power, of reserve and resolve, of generosity, of purity - all there in the raw energy, adding color and depth to the magnum opus: the constantly changing and evolving you.
You have gifted me with courage and wisdom and wit. You were one of the ones who showed me what unconditional meant. You helped bring my soul back to life.
I always will hold you in my heart - a life, a love and a friendship dear that will burn brightly forever in my heart and in my soul, a part of me forever ... as a part of me is with you.
Rest and Journey - enjoy the freedom of eternity and what may and will come in the next cycles. Promises are meant to be kept, and I will keep mine to you.
I will never forget the bookseller by the docks and how his love rescued the girl he adored, saving her for someone else to marry. the bookseller will find his love again, maybe even along the same river.
Blessed Be.
always yours,
