Joan Steffens Obituary

80, a Sister of the Good Shepherd for 59 years, died November 7, 2007 at Epoch of Harwich, Harwich, MA. She was born in Newton, MA the daughter of Albert J. and Anna (O'Brien) Steffens. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Janet Steffens of Plymouth, MA, her sister, Anne Linnehan of Orleans, MA, her sister-in-law, Dottie Steffens of Newton Highlands, MA. She served as a social worker in Peekskill, NY and was Director of Social Service in Hartford, CT, Marlborough, MA, Morristown, NJ and New York City. She also served at Catholic Charities in Newark, NJ and was chaplain at Bellevue Hospital in NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on November 13, 2007 at Good Shepherd Center, 406 Hemenway St., Marlborough, MA at 11 am. Visiting hours will be on November 12, 2007 from 4-8pm, with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Burial will be at Mount Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Good Shepherd Retirement Fund, 406 Hemenway St., Marlborough, MA 01752. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.SFCFH.com), 378 Lincoln St., Marlborough, MA

I knew Sister when she was a chaplain at Bellevue Hospital Center where I worked as a social worker. We spent a significant time together talking about God,Church,and the best way to help others. May she rest in peace.
