Alvina Hunter Obituary

Of Auburndale Nov. 16, 2007 at Mary Ann Morse Nursing Center in Natick, MA. Devoted wife of the late Herman C. Hunter who died in 1994. A lifelong resident of Newton, "Vina" was the youngest daughter of John and Elizabeth (Martel) Deagle. Vina was a graduate of Newton High School and then enrolled in Boston Teacher's College (now Framingham State College). In her Freshman year, Vina was forced to leave college to care for her elderly, widowed father and never returned to earn her degree. Vina was the youngest (and last surviving) of eight children, and very close to all of them throughout their lives. Vina and her sisters loved to shop for bargains! and didn't miss a thrift shop, church sale, or estate sale. Vina, who never drove, loved to take scenic day trips with her family. She loved the beach, with waves and seagulls, and the mountains with foliage and vistas. Vina loved to take pictures of all her favorite things, her family, her beautiful flowers, pretty scenes, and her cat "Spike". Vina cooked and cleaned for her husband and family with loving care and rarely a complaint. When her husband became ill and couldn't work, Vina took a job at Jordan Marsh Co. (a two mile walk) and later, at H.W. Marshall Co. (a one mile walk) and still continued with house work when she got home. In later years, Vina got some help from her grown family and got to enjoy her grandkids; hobbies. etc. she volunteered at the Campion Center with a group from Corpus Christi Church and the Newton Senior's Center. Vina was predeceased by her daughter Lois, her brothers, John (Joseph), Henry, and Robert Deagle, and her sisters, Alice Murphy, Mary Reynolds, Rose Buckley, and Anne Richardson. She was loving mother of Joan Hanson and her husband (the late) Lawrence, of Natick, MA, Dr. Diane Hunter of Newton, MA, Stephen Hunter and his wife Diane of West Hartford, CT, James Hunter and his wife Connie of East Walpole, MA, and Donald Hunter and his wife Sue of Dedham, MA. Vina was loving Grammy to ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and Aunt Vina to many nieces and nephews. The family is deeply grateful to all the wonderful people we have met in the eight years our mother has been ill with Alzheimer's. Thank you to everyone at Dedham VNA Day Care, Spring House Assisted Living, and most of all, the Angels of the Birch Uhit at Mary Ann Morse Nursing Center. All your loving care will never be forgotten! We are also grateful to Dr. Paul Raia a wonderful man who taught us the secret to caring for someone with Alzheimer's... LOVE! And that the ESSENCE of the person NEVER LEAVES! Funeral from the Blackington, Conroy & Hayes Funeral Home 1479 Washington St. (Rte. 16) WEST NEWTON, Tuesday, November 20 at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass in Corpus Christi Church, Auburndale at 10:30 A.M. WHAT A GREAT LIFE MY MOTHER HAD!

MY MOTHER WAS A VERY RICH WOMAN

MY MOTHER WAS RICH WITH FAMILY
SHE WAS THE YOUNGEST OF 8 CHILDREN
SHE HAD A HUSBAND THAT LOVED HER
AND SHE HAD 6 CHILDREN OF HER OWN
10 GRANDCHILDREN AND 8 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN

MY MOTHER WAS RICH WITH GOOD HEALTH
SHE NEVER TOOK MORE THAN AN ASPIRIN UNTIL VERY LATE IN HER
LIFE

MY MOTHER WAS RICH WITH OPTIMISM
HER GLASS WAS ALWAYS HALF FULL
SHE RARELY COMPLAINED
SHE ALWAYS SAW THE GOOD IN EVERYONE
SHE EVEN FOUND SOME IN ME!

MY MOTHER WAS RICH WITH EMOTIONS
A THOUGHTLESS WORD OR COMMENT DIRECTED HER WAY WOULD BRING
NIAGARA FALLS
FEELINGS OF JOY AND SADNESS
WERE IMMEDIATE AND GENUINE

MY MOTHER WAS RICH WITH LOVE
SO MUCH LOVE, THAT A HORRIBLE DISEASE LIKE ALZHEIMER’S COULD
NOT DIMINISH IT
SO MUCH LOVE, THAT SHE CAN'T TAKE IT ALL WITH HER
WHATS LEFT OF HER LOVE FILLS THIS CHURCH TODAY

IN MY MOMS LAST FEW YEARS, WHEN I VISITED HER IN THE NURSING HOME, I WOULD DRAW MY STRENGTH FROM
HER BEAUTIFUL SMILE, HER BRIGHT
SHINING EYES, HER WARM TOUCH
IN A WORD…HER ESSENCE

NOW THAT SHE'S GONE I MUST LOOK FOR THAT ESSENCE ELSWHERE

THANKFULLY, IT’S NOT FAR AWAY

IT’S IN THE FACES OF MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS, IT’S IN THE FACES
OF OUR CHILDREN AND OUR
CHILDREN'S CHILDREN
IN THOSE FACES I CAN SEE MY
MOTHER AS CLEAR AS IF SHE WAS
STANDING HERE

ALVINA'S ESSENCE WILL LIVE ON FOREVER
