Esther and family, I was deeply saddened to read of Olly's death in last Sunday's Boston Globe. I was his secretary for 7+ years back in the 1950's when he was an Asst.Treas. at John Hancock. He was such a great boss and a wonderful person. I respected him so much that I gave my first son the name, Oliver as his middle name. These past few days have brought back so many happy memories of Olly. Rest in peace, old friend.

Esther and Oliver have been sweet friends to all of the Connelly family for many years. When a giant oak falls in the forest it leaves a huge hole which will take generations to fill. Yet it reminds us to look up and see the stars and wonder at God's handiwork in making men like Oliver Ames.

Oliver had strong connections with my father, James, via the guernesy dairy cattle group as well as for many years as a fellow Republican in the legislature. We worked together on the Lincoln Woods project for many years prior to his retirement a few yers ago. His smile, wry Yankee humor and ability to offer simple approaches to complex issues will always be with me. He will be missed by us all, but never forgotten.
Love to the entire family

To the Ames family and especially Olly,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know that your father was a tremendous individual. He was loved, respected and admired by all. He also did a good job with you. You share many of his traits and I am sure you, and your family, made him proud. (Did he ever beat you in a 10K?) Keep on running!

Our deepest sympathy to all.
Mr. Ames was a very special person whose pride in his family and his country was remarkable. I was deeply honored to have prepared the short biography about him particularly in regard to his World War II experiences.
With deepest sympathy.

TO THE AMES FAMILY,
I WANTED TO EXPRESS BY SYMPATHY IN THE LOSS OF SUCH A WONDERFUL HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER AND A SPECIAL FRIEND. MR. AMES WAS AN ICON OF A MAN. I HAVE WORKED WITH HIM FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS AND HE ALWAYS WORE THAT SMILE AND IF IT WASN'T ON HIS FACE I MADE SURE I SAW IT BEFORE DAYS END. HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL THAT LOVED HIM AND ALL THAT WISH THEY KNEW HIM. I KNOW HIS FAMILY MEANT THE WORLD TO HIM AND HE WILL WATCH OVER EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU.
I KNOW I WILL MISS HIM GREATLY.
