John Edwards Obituary

Of Wellesley, November 29, 2007. Beloved son of John Edwards, Jr. and loving brother of Julia Edwards both of Wellesley. A remarkable young man, Johnny graduated from Wellesley High School in 2006 as both class Valedictorian and Class President. After graduation he went on to Harvard University where he continued to earn straight A's. After his first year at Harvard, he was accepted into a special science program involved in advancing stem cell research at Harvard Medical School. Johnny was an accomplished skier and lettered in Tennis during Wellesley's State Championship year, and recently, he was among a very limited number of Harvard students selected to run the 2008 Boston Marathon to raise funds for local charities. Johnny chose Project Health, an organization developed to break the link between poverty and poor health. He was a great musician, playing both piano and guitar. All of his accomplishments pale in comparison to the kindness and caring he showed towards others, especially his younger sister and his dad. Everyone who knew Johnny will miss him dearly. Along with his father and sister, he is survived by his grandparents Jack Edwards of Boulder, CO, and Nadesha Edwards of Temple, NH as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Also survived by his mother Lesley Edwards. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, Dec 5 at 9:30 AM at the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Wellesley, 309 Washington St (Rt 16) WELLESLEY. Visiting hours Tuesday, December 4 from 4-8 PM at the Henry J. Burke and Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington St., (Rte 16) WELLESLEY HILLS. Casual dress appreciated. Interment will be private. To pay tribute to Johnny's memory, the Edwards family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to Project Health at www.project health.org. Henry J. Einstein said, “I have never looked upon ease and happiness as ends in themselves--such an ethical basis I call the ideal of a pigsty...The ideals which have lighted my way, and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth.” John, these were all qualities emanating from you. May you experience them now - wherever you are.

As a parent of a WHS "06 graduate, I fondly remember the night of graduation when John spoke so eloquently to all of us. We beamed with joy as our children graduated and with tears of joy as we sent them off to college that fall. I can't begin to fathom your pain of loss, but always remember John's spirit to reach for the stars. He was quite special.
