IN LOVING MEMORY Phil "Dino" Marquard July 2, 1938 to November 30, 2007. Sometimes it seems like yesterday, when we began to share a life. One of the happiest days I'll ever know is the day I became Phil's wife. For those who knew Phil, loved him, he was very rarely down. Our days were truly precious; more smiles than there were frowns. He was my lover and my mate and of course, was my best friend. We had so much in common and our love will have no end. Our love has been a special one, it was cherished every day. I only hope that he now knows, by these words that I convey. I love you, Philip, and always will; and I hope that you might see, your love meant more than life itself. It meant everything to me.
Happy Birthday, Darling
All My Love, Elaine

Our family would like to thank each and every one of you not only for coming to celebrate Phil’s life but for sharing in his life. Phil brought such exuberance to our lives he will be forever and sorely missed. Everyone that met Phil was touched by his uniqueness – as soon as someone met Phil they somehow felt as though they had known him forever. He had a knack for making everyone around him feel at ease.
Phil was honored with many titles over the years including husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, however the one that he was most proud of was friend. He had an easygoing personality and no matter what the situation, he was always able to make friends easily because of his charm and grace.
Phil was a very loving, kind, sensitive, funny and generous man. He was my husband, my friend, my confidante, my honey bun and my soul mate. Phil’s children feel that he was the best Dad they could ask for – he was ALWAYS there for them when they needed him. And of course we know how much he adored his grandchildren – he was just the best Papa. His grandchildren will always remember Papa handing out all of the Christmas presents.
Phil was born and raised in the North End of Boston and had a successful career with the Federal Government. For most of his career, he delivered medical equipment to veterans’ homes; for a short while he modified orthopedic footwear for active military members. After retirement, he delivered flowers for Louis Barry and always brought happiness to the receivers. He was not shy and would often sing an appropriate song to the receiver and added to their special day!
Phil loved many things; golf for one and another singing, especially in the style of Dean Martin. Phil even perfected his art of impersonating Dino and became a professional singer in Naples, Florida, albeit a short career. He was so very relaxed on stage one would almost think that he was performing all of his life. He was definitely not shy! When Phil was in “his element”, he shined like the brightest star in the sky. One of his most cherished accomplishments was that he was selected as a finalist in the Boomer Idol’s singing competition held in Naples, Florida just last June. We know that he is in heaven right now singing with Frank and Dean and is being welcomed at the newest member of the Rat Pack.
One friend recently told me,(quote) “ I remember sitting at the Isle of Capri with Phil and listening to his enthusiasm and thankful approach to life”. Another friend wrote, (quote) “While riding around the golf course, Phil told me his philosophy on life. Phil was determined to enjoy life to the fullest and not let his illness get him down. I am so thankful to have played golf with Phil that day as he was so positive and inspiring”.
When Phil was diagnosed with cancer he did not waver one bit. He never asked God “why me” –he only asked the physician what the next step was and he bravely stepped up to the plate, over and over. For one month shy of three years, Phil subjected his body to chemotherapy, hoping that some day he would receive a clean bill of health. Phil NEVER was resentful or angry; he always told me that God had chosen him for a reason. His faith in God never wavered. Until the very end of Phil’s life, he was encouraging other cancer patients to remain positive and to believe that they would beat the battle. Phil was a most remarkable man.
In the enduring words of Frank Sinatra, Phil did do it his way, living his life to the fullest and enjoying every precious moment of it. We ask you to keep Phil, my beloved husband, his children’s’ loving Dad, his grandchildren’s’ adoring Papa and your devoted friend, in your memories always. Please know that he truly cherished all of your friendships and was always grateful for his family and friends, during the good times and the tough times.
I idolized him – his children cherished him – his grandchildren adored him and all of his extended family members and friends loved him. Now, that’s Amore!

Dear Elaine, Phil was a most wonderful man and will remain in our hearts forever. He may be the most positive person I ever knew--always putting a good spin on everything. You two had such fun together. Then, recently, you two went through more than most could tolerate. Phil had enormous courage and perseverance, right till the end. You, Elaine, were the rock and the beacon right till the end. I am very proud of Phil and I'm very proud of you. Phil, your angel above, is now shining on you and all of us down here. You, Elaine, will continue to do your own shining on all of us who are lucky enough to be apart of your life. Love, Marie.

Phil was a great guy with a huge heart.I respected him very much and will miss him dearly. He was funny, easygoing, and a hell of a singer. Being a proud Italian in South Boston makes him brave as well.

Elaine-I am truly sorry for your loss. Phil was an amazing man, and I know how much he meant to you. The great moments and memories will live forever in all of our hearts.

Dear Elaine: Phil was such a happy person and loved to be with people. He will be missed. Last night at Karaoke we had a short tribute to our friend. Bobby sang one of Phil's favorites "That's Amore" (of course not nearly as well as Phil sang it). Everyone stood and sang along. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family.

To Elaine, and all of Phil's beloved family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss, and I hope that in the days and weeks and months ahead you will find yourself remembering Phil, the Phil who smiled, laughed, and played every day, the Phil that he wants you to remember. He is the kind of guy that anyone is lucky to know - "good people". I'll never forget the first time I saw him singing, which was with microphone in hand, and I know he was always his happiest doing so, and it showed. I am thinking of you Elaine, Frank, and Rob, and sending prayers for your peace and healing.

What a guy Phil was. I remember first meeting him at Robbie (Roberta)'s house on St. Patrick Day parades. He always made it a point to let me know that No, he was NOT irish! And then he always found a way to sing. But he had class when he did it, and a great voice so we loved him for it. A very warm man to his wife and to his friends, Phil was part of my family, too. You will be missed, sir. And THAT's Amore.
All my love.

Elaine,
We are so sorry for your loss. Being out of the loop and to hear that this happened seemed to be so sudden. You are in our thoughts as well as our prayers. Every time I think of you and Phil I am always brought back to his crooning and song at the few get togethers we had with Robbie and Uncle Frank. It seems to trite to say that he is not gone, but watching over you now, but I really feel it is true. He will always be with you in thoughts as well as spirit.
With love and sincerest sympathies,

Elaine,
It has been a pleasure to have you and Phil as friends in Naples. My parents adored Phil. I know they consider the two of you some of the best friends they have ever had in their lives. They will be there for you for whatever you need in the future. You and Phil have been a true blessing to them since they decided to retire in Naples. They would do anything for you so don't hesitate to ask.
Our family will always remember doing things with you and Phil like dinners together, breakfasts after church, golfing, helping Phil catch his first fish, going to the pool, and karaoke. Our kids always loved being around Phil because of his enthusiasm and fun attitude. He was like a big kid to them.
Phil's grace and class in the wake of his battle with cancer are an inspiration to all of us. Phil is now in a better place and he is feeling all of the love he experienced and gave to others here on earth.
May God bless you and all of your family during this time.

Dear Elaine and Family of Phil Marquard,
Our love and condolences to you. Phil was such a wonderful Light. He was always so upbeat and sunny. It was a pleasure to know him and see him. In my memory, he will always be on the lawn chair in front of the house in Naples with a smile, a wave and a good word for a neighbor.
Well, as one of Phil's friends said,
"Ain't that a kick in the head", his pal Dean Martin. Whenever I hear it, I will smile and think of Phil.
Our love and prayers are with you now and always,
God bless, Holly and Paul
