Michael Morrison Obituary

Died December 9th, 2007 at the age of 93. He was born in Lawrence, Mass. on December 25th, 1913. He is survived by his wife Arline (Woerner), his son Christopher M., father of the late Patric D. and the late Nicholas M., his sister, Gladys Grover, the late Dorothea Coskren, many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and great grandchildren. Mr. Morrison was a veteran of World War II, U.S. Navy. In his early years, he worked in the Lawrence mills. He traveled extensively during the Great Depression and had many interesting stories to tell of his experiences on the road and riding the rails. After his naval service he attended Northeastern University, earning degrees with honors in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration. He worked in the engineering field. In later retirement years he worked at the Lexington Stop & Shop, earning Hall of Fame status on the employee roster. His interests were many and varied. In the late 1940's he began bicycling to work, much to the amusement of children, who rarely saw an adult on a bicycle. He also enjoyed reading, genealogy, gardening, and home repair. He was very proud of his Irish heritage, was an excellent dancer, fiddler of Irish music, and a student of Irish history. The trips he and his wife took to Ireland were one of the high points in his life. Mr. Morrison was a parishioner of St. Brigid Parish in Lexington. He sang in the choir for many years. Thereafter he served as an usher at Sunday Mass. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Brigid Church on Saturday December 15th, 11 AM. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. I will miss Mike's presence, always reading, at lunch at the Lexington Senior Center. I only knew him as an acquaintance in his final years. I regret I culdn't engage him in conversation because of his deafness.

My sincere condolences to his wife, Arline, and his family. You can take comfort in his living a long , adventurous and productive life.
