Lester Macktez Obituary

A WWII veteran, civic leader and textile executive from Woonsocket, RI, died on December 11, 2007 after a long bout with Alzheimer's Disease at the age of 87. He lived most recently in Chestnut Hill. He was the beloved husband of the late Helaine (Flashner) Macktez for 46 years. He was president of LouMac Textile Corporation, with offices in Millville, MA and New York. An Air Force Veteran of WWII with seven battle stars and an Air Medal, Macktez rose to the District presidency of B'Nai Brith - America's oldest and largest Jewish service organization - after serving 3 terms as president of the Woonsocket, RI lodge. He also served as Vice-Chairman of the National B'Nai Brith Youth Commission and was a member of the New England board of the Anti-defamation League. In 1960 he was chosen by the Woonsocket Lodge as "Man Of The Year" for his community service. After retiring in the early 1980's, he spent 20 years at Indian Springs Country Club in Boynton Beach, Florida. Mr. Macktez leaves 2 daughters, Deborah Macktez Kurinsky of Needham, Mass and Judith Macktez Hayes of Shrewsbury, Mass, and 3 grandchildren, Sarah and Evan Kurinsky and Samuel Hayes. Funeral services will be held at the B'Nai Israel Cemetery on Mendon Rd, Woonsocket, Rhode Island at 2PM, December 12, 2007. Arrangements are under the direction of the the Chevrah Kaddisha, Congregation B'Nai Israel and the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., WOONSOCKET, RI. Memorial observance will be held at the home of Deborah Kurinsky beginning on Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM, Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM, Saturday evening and Sunday from 2-4 PM. Mr. Macktez,
Sir, I didn't know you but I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
