Alex Katona Obituary

KATONA - Alex Born in Cleveland, Ohio, May 22, 1924, died January 24, 2008. Dr. Katona was employed for 36 years, primarily in the Niagara Falls, NY area, for Hooker Chemical/Occidental Chemical Corporation as a manager in Research and Development, Plant and Division Manufacturing, and as a manager/consultant in Occidentals corporate Environment, Health and Safety activities. He received B.S., M.S., and Ph.D degrees in Chemical Engineering from Case Institute of Technology, now Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 and served in the Burma-India Theater. He was a faithful, active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lewiston, NY where he served as Trustee and Elder. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank and Margaret Katona, both of whom immigrated to the U.S. from Hungary, and by his brother Frank Katona, Jr. Dr. Katona is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nadine H. Katona, and their two sons: Dean A. Katona of Columbus, OH, his wife Vanessa R. Katona and their two children, Stephen W. Katona and Katheryn A. Katona; and Scot A. Katona of Dunnsville, VA, his wife Elizabeth W. Katona and their two children Elizabeth N. Katona and S. Spencer Katona. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Lewiston, NY on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.
