I am so sorry to hear of Pat's passing, especially two weeks after. I knew him since 1975 when I moved to Hamburg to work for my father where Pat worked. A friend, a character and a piece of work, Tommy Stratton, Paul Snyder, Rob Madurski & I had our "regular" outings at Rooths & Foits. Unfortunately we drifted apart - I scared Pat when I "got religion." Pat my friend, you're the best!

Dear Gayle,
I just heard the news about Pat's death. I am so sorry for your loss. Pat was a wonderful man who offered me friendship and support. I have often thought about the two of you since I moved to the west coast and the good times we shared so many years ago. May you find the comfort and strength you need to ease your suffering.

Gayle, Girls: Pat was like a son to my Mom, Dot Stratton. Every week since 1997, he'd lightened her sorrow of losing Tommy as Patrick would call Mom each Tuesday faithfully to chat and to cheer. Now, our deepest sympathy to you. We can feel the sadness.--Girls, know that your Dad was immensely, immensely proud of you with every step you took, every breath you breathed. You'll miss him hugely but every time someone hears you all laugh or listen to you cheer up a room or brighten someone else's day, it will remind us of your Dad, Patrick Hanley, as those would be very Pat Hanley-ish things to do.
Understanding may not be in the cards, my Friends, but the beacon that was Pat's smile and voice---well, that is something to hold on to forever. Love, Cindy (Stratton) Whitman

Remember
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
