Dear Trudy
It is with great shock and sadness that I read of Bob's passing. I can't believe that he has departed this life. The pictures brought back such fond memories and I will always remember with great delight how he spoke of his annual trek to Mt. Marcy. Ruth and I and our two girls have visited Saranac Lake & Lake Placid almost annually for the last 29 years though not avid hikers as he was. I always liked talking with him about that special place in New York state.
As you will remember, I'm sure, Ruth, too, is a member of the Buffalo Society of Artists, and both of them exhibited at the Kenan Center about four years ago. He had a fantastic blown-out image of the strip in Las Vegas and a marvellous wood sculpture. Both got awards! He was talented in so many ways and everything he touched he left it better than when he found it. And that includes the people he touched, especially.
I would very much like to acquire a copy of his Nevada Rocks and if at some time you can advise me how to obtain a copy, it will be well appreciated.
Ruth and I send our deepest condolences to you and your family.
Sincerely, Wally & Ruth Mohn

It is remarkable how a chance encounter with a person can make a remarkable difference in your life and those of others. In 1995 while filling in for a newspaper delivery driver, I asked a gentleman at the Downtown Library Reference Desk where the Jobs Weekly papers should be delivered to. This gentleman happed to be Bob Gurn who proceeded to ask me why our jobs were not posted on the internet. I admitted to him that I did not know what the internet was or what he was talking about. Bob was kind enough to spend the next 30 minutes explaining to me the basics of how it worked and showed me some early websites. Within a month we had reserved the domain name and created the website WNYJOBS.com. Over the years the website has grown in popularity and helped thousands or western New Yorkers’ find work.
I have always credited my chance encounter with Bob, for steering me in the right direction for our business. He was kind enough to spend the time educating me on a subject I knew nothing about. I can’t help but wonder how many other library patrons he helped over the years as well.
I am very sorry for your loss. Maybe each time you see one our logos on the front of an NFTA bus or on the cover of our paper you will be reminded of the kindness your husband/father/friend showed to stranger.
Sincerely,
Joe Rindfuss
