Dan and I have been friends for almost 30-years. We worked at the FRA as inspectors and enjoyed the times we spent talking about railroads, life, my home state of Maine, and God. Twice in my life his care for me meant literally life or death. I was out of work and he found some for me, I was out of hope and he gave some to me, and when I was out of friends, he was one to me and encouraged me to seek those others who cared about me too.
I was at his house once when Alice was living and Alice fixed me ice cream and a wonderful desert. She was as sweet and lovely as he said she was, but very quiet.
Dan was counselled me like a father and when he spoke I listened and I learned. He sent me a book once when I'd lost hope and suddenly it returned to me.
When I got divorced he ministered to me, as he did when my father died.
He's been on my mind lately, because on Father's Day, I always send him a greeting on the internet. Somehow I felt like something was missing these past few days, like there was a void in my life. I've not been able to sleep and have felt very anxious. Now I know why.
I loved this fine man and I'm sad with his passing for his family, but thankful that he has gone with his beloved Alice to his last reward.

We were shocked and saddened to learn of Dan's passing. On behalf of the members of the WNY Railway Historical Society, we extend our sincere condolences for your loss. We first met Dan as the "Dreaded FRA Man", but he was always fair in his dealings with the Society and our growing fleet of railroad equipment. Dan later became a member of the Society and served on the Board of Trustees for several years. He advised and trained most of our mechanical staff and could always supply an answer to the most difficult problems we encountered. He will surely be missed by all.

The Feneziani family,
Dan and I have been friends for about 66 years, and through the years we kept in touch, even though I had moved away. Our wives also became good friends and we had many visits and restaurant meals when ever possible. Dan visited us in Chicago when we first married and he also came to Poughkeepsie to attend our 50th anniversary. We will miss him greatly and his stories and anecdotes about life in Gardenville. He was a good friend!

Deepest sympathies to the family from those of us with the Tioga Central Railroad of Wellsboro, PA. We owe a great deal to Dan for his contributions to the operation - as our FRA inspector, later as a shareholder, member of the board of directors and particularly as an invaluable resource. Beyond the professional side was a friend who shared life experiences on and off the railroad. It was gratifying to see that a man could be the ultimate railroad professional and still be enthusiastic about the culture and memorabilia of the industry. Dan's passing symbolizes more than a personal loss, it represents the passing of an era. May the Lord grant him peace and eternal rest.

Dan,
Even though I knew you only a short time, you were the best in my book. Your knowledge of railroading and your freindship with the people of the Tioga Central Railroad will always be treasured. We will miss you very much.
May God keep you close and bless your family.

we would like to express our sympathy to the family in the death of our friend , Dan. I will always remember him not only as a friend but as a co-worker on the New York Central Railroad and with the FRA. I will miss our regular visits with him when we visited our daughter, Debbie Armstrong in Alden, NY. He was a lot of help and support to her when she lost her husband in a Railroad accident. Another fond memory is when he accepted the Lord as his personal savior during a previous illness. May the Lord bless the family and uphold you during this time of grief. Larry & Kay Willison

Fenezani Family:
It is with my deepest thoughts and prayers that I think of Dan, for he was a dear friend, fellow co-worker and most of all a mentor who nurtured many of us in the FRA. His Integrity and Grit always stood for who he was, and served as guidance for so many who sought his direction and approval. Dan was always ready to give so much of himself to those he cared for. We will miss him dearly. Love, Leon & Nancy Smith & Family
