I was saddened to hear of Matthew Gutowski's passing. I did not know the gentleman, however, my family wonders if we are not related. My maiden name is Christine Gutowski. Our family has completely lost touch with my father's side of the family. I am from Buffalo, N.Y. and most of my family still lives in or around Buffalo. My parents (Felix and Mary Gutowski) were originally from Salamanca, N.Y. and married in 1920. I would have to search a bit to locate the names of both of my Grandparents on the Gutowski side. I think my Grandfather's first name was Stanley. I know that my father came from a large family and I believe one of his sisters name was Lottie and there is a set of twin girls (nieces of my father) Roseale and Rosemarie.
In any case our family would like to extend our most sincere condolences on your loss of Matthew.
Sincerely,
Christine (Gutowski) (Straszynski) Morris

If any man was a saint, it was Mr. G. He had a smile and a good word for everyone. If he heard someone criticize or talk about someone, Mr. G. would always try to say something nice about that person. If he heard people complaining, Mr. G. would just quietly walk away without saying anything. He always tried to be positive. As he often said, "what's the use of complaining--it ain't going to do you any good."
My sympathy to his family. Mr. G. is probably with Tillie right now, so I know he is happy. Our world is a better place because Mr. G. was a part of it. I will always remember him and Mrs. G.

We are sorry to learn about Matt's passing. He worked at Snyder Tank for many years after retiring from the Navy. Matt was always very friendly and would often visit us with gifts of his favorite gum. He will be missed.
God Bless to his family.

Matty Gutowski was a kind gentleman who loved everyone. Never have I known Matty to say an unkind word about another in all the years that I knew him. He had many crosses to bear in life, but he carried them all in such a stoic manner and with such acceptance.
Matty was a member of Saint Barbara's for years. I can remember his dedication to the parish lawn fetes. He loved children and had a knack for understanding and relating to them.
May God bless Matty Gutowski. He will forever remain a legend in Lackawanna and an eternal monument of all that St. Barbara's stood for as a parish.
