I was thinking of Dad recently when I was in the airport and a plane landed and a parade of veterans disembarked. Many were in wheelchairs. As they made their way thru the airport toward the elevator, cheers and clapping erupted from everyone there. I felt sad that my father is no longer one of the few WWII Veterans alive. His service meant more to him than anything, and I respect him for that. We spent some time in the 60's and 70's arguing about the Vietnam war. We came from different places politically, but I can't say that I've ever done anything as brave as go to war as a 17 year old. God bless him.

Dear Marilyn, Coleen, Mark, Robin and Billy,
As the holiday comes closer, my thoughts are especially with all of you. Bill was your anchor but he will always be with you, trying to guide you forward. He would be so proud that his children honored him the way you did after his death. Lets always remember him with the great smile that he had. Love, Aunt Joann & Uncle Joe

To the Hanna Family

I'm thinking of Uncle Bill and am going to get a Christmas wreath for him as well as for my parents. I would usually be shopping for his christmas sweater-- trying to carry on my mothers' tradition. She always had to get him---"his christmas sweater". I did mix it up a little --like the year i ran into Mark and Billy at the walden galleria mall and with their help got him a nice fightin irish blanket that I'm sure he enjoyed this time of year.

Coleen and family,
I was so sorry to hear of your father's death. He certainly was going strong at his age. We were only 14 (high school freshmen) when I met your family. I remember you and your Dad picking me up and bringing me to your house to spend the weekend. I also remember him taking us to "The Club" for swimming. Afterwards, your Dad would grill barbequed chicken or cheeseburgers and we would eat dinner in your backyard. Its been many years since that time, but I can still picture him.
Coleen, I am so glad we made the trip to Buffalo in June and you were able to be with him on Father's Day.
Frank and Natalie and I offer each of you our deepest sympathy.
Love,
Sara

Billy-
I was saddened to hear of your father's passing. I apologize for not being able to make it to the wake to tell you in person these sentiments but know that you and your family have been in my thoughts. I know how you are feeling right now having lost my father a short year ago. Remember the good times and the legacy he left behind to help you through this difficult time. If there is anything Jill or I can do for you or your family, please let us know. Next time you go down to Kaz's give me a call and we can eat a couple beers, listen to some old 70's tunes and tell stories about our "Old Mans". I'm sure you have many...I know I do.(479-4151 cell)
Best Always-

Happy is the house that shelters friends. There have been a countless number of speical people and friends with whom we've shared our time, but very few of whom we've shared our hearts. Billy, by far, touched our hearts.
Things have now changed without our dear friend Billy, but the thousands of memories we've made together will always remain with a smile.

Sending our sincere expression of sympathy,

Dear Hanna Family,
Our hearts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow. Mr. Hanna was part of my daily routine at the Mansard. If there was a day he did not show up, everyone asked (Where's Billy) He always had a smile on his face, and giving Biff the business! We also have a great feeling of loss. As for myself Wayne has lost a great Golf partner on Wedneday's. I know for myself I will miss the tales and the TALL TALES of those days.

HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED!

Love and comfort,

Billy,
I keep thinking of my Mom waiting to golf with her brother. Your dad surely would be in for some competition.
I hope you and Robin, your Mom, Mark, Coleen, Wayne, your Dads friends, and his family at Rodneys are finding comfort in memories of happy times shared with him, and who could forget all his famous sayings.

Mrs. Hanna, Coleen, Mark, and Billy,

I speak for my entire family when I say we are so sad and shocked by Mr. Hanna's sudden death. He was one of those guys who you just assumed would be here forever. But the truth is he's gone on to a much better place...and he'll be there waiting for the rest of his family to join him in the future. You are all in our thoughts and prayers, and each of you hold a special place in each of our hearts.

Coleen, Wayne, Mark, Billy and Robin,

I am so saddened by your Dads passing. I feel blessed to have had him in my life.
I always think of my Moms relationship with him, and how enjoyable it was to me. He would pick on her, tease her, and give her the business. It was just too funny! And she loved it.
One of the things I could count on my Uncle Billy at all times to do--was to make me laugh, and that is such an awesome gift.
I am missing him and thinking of
all of you at this sad and difficult time.

There are no words to describe the loss of someone we love. The pain is always great and the grief is always deep.
*But one thing is sure. Your Dad's spirit will always be with you and all your family. As time passes and the the tears subside, you'll recall the memories of the good times you had together. There will be smiles and satisfaction- satisfaction that you were a good daughter and honored him as so.
The following poem is one that was read when a dear friend passed away. Glean from it what you can and be assured that we'll all pray for him knowing full well that he is now an angel in heaven and will be praying for and watching over us. We thank our Dear Lord, for sharing him with us.
Do not stand by my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am a diamond glint of snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the soft uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight,
I am the soft starshine at night.
Do not stand by my grave and cry,
For I am not there, I did not die...

Mark, Billy, Colleen and Wayne,
I was saddened to hear of your Fathers passing. The loss of a parent is something none of us is ever really prepared for, regardless of the circumstances it leaves a void that only time can fill. Your dad was a great person with a terrific sense of humor. Although he will be missed he will be remembered by all of those he touched. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy in his family. I know that you made him very proud. My thoughts are with you & your families at this difficult time and my deepest and heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Hanna family.

To everyone who came to see my father at his wake, or to his funeral Mass, and the cemetery,
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It's always hard to lose a parent, especially one so lively and full of life at age 83. My father would have had a real chuckle at how popular he was. He had a wicked sense of humor and sometimes his jokes leaned toward the morbid, so I can just imagine what he would have had to say about the big party for him.
I am happy that he didn't suffer; that was a wonderful gift from God. We will all miss him, especially those of you who saw him on pretty much a daily basis. Someday we will all meet in heaven.
Love,

Lord, here my prayer,
send your angels,
to guard well, we Seabee sailors,
serving in your fleet,
protect us from harm or defeat,
give us guidance and wisdom,
to pursue diplomacy and peace
instead of hatred and war,
chosing life, over death,
when I die, permit me to appear first, at your gate, allow the devil to think I'm late for muster and, before he realizes his mistake, grant me entrance, and assign me to serve,
life eternal, in your heavenly fleet.
