Margaret Clark Obituary

CLARK - Margaret E. (Schum) Margaret Clark was born in Attica, NY on April 10, 1916. She attended and graduated from St. Vincents School and attended the Agricultural School of Canton, NY for 2 years. She earned her B.S. Degree in Education from Syracuse University and her M.S. in Education from NY State College at Buffalo, NY. Her first teaching position was at Dundee, NY which was the first centralized school in the state when it opened in Jan. 1939. Her salary was $1100 a year paid once a month. There was no Health Insurance, Pension Plan or Income Tax at that time. She taught at Bellmore, Long Island, Corfu Central, St. John the Baptist, Alden Central and Lancaster Central, where she retired. She became an avid quilter in retirement. Her quilts won many prizes at the Erie County Fair and Quilt Shows. She combined photography with her love of quilts and produced many slide shows which where shown in the Historical Societies and Quilt Guilds. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James Clark; three sons William (Marie) of Reno, NV, Robert (Nancy) of Frederick MD, and Thomas (Evelyn) of Orchard Park; a daughter Susan (Glenn) Quakenbush of Penn Yan; seven grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Thursday at St. John the Baptist RC Church, 2021 Sandridge, Alden. Burial will be at St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery in Attica.
