Anthony Cappello Obituary

CAPPELLO - Anthony Passed away peacefully on October 9, 2008 in Scottsdale, AZ surrounded by his loving family. Tony was born September 22, 1918 in Buffalo, NY. As a child, he moved back to his familys homeland of Sicily where he lived until the end of WWII. His love of the U.S. prompted him to move back with his wife, Bianca and daughter, Fran. Tony was a dedicated employee of the Bethlehem Steel Co. for over 30 years. After his retirement in 1980, he and Bianca moved to Phoenix to be near their children and grandchildren. Sadly, in 1991, he lost the love of his life when Bianca passed away. Tony was active in the Bishop Gomes Assembly of the Knights of Columbus where he achieved 4th Degree Knight. In 1992, he was blessed to have met and married Maria Privitera and was lovingly welcomed into her family. He took great pride in his beautiful vegetable garden, cheered on his Buffalo Bills and enjoyed late night games of Briscola with family and friends. His generous nature and loving spirit not only surrounded his immediate family, but extended to all who knew him. His inner beauty matched his outer beauty and together they formed a perfect spirit. Tony is survived by loving wife, Maria; daughter, Fran Case (Frank); son, Al (Donna); stepsons, Tanino and Louis (Bethany) Privitera; grandchildren Donna Doglione (Art, Frank (Lorena) and Joe Case, Katie, Tony (Jessica) and Rosie Cappello, and soon-to-be-born Rowan Privitera; great-grandchildren, Paige and Bianca Doglione, and Frankie and David Case. Also surviving are brother, John (Connie) Cappello; sisters, Sarah Giacotto and Josephine Cappello; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bianca and sister, Maria Veneziano. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM, Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at HANSEN DESERT HILLS CHAPEL, 6500 E. Bell Rd., Scottsdale with a Rosary at 7:30 PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3801 E. Greenway Rd., Phoenix. Arrangements entrusted to Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 480-991-5800.

Dear Franny and Al.
I remember your mother Bianca and father Tony with special fondness. They were both so kind and loving to us and the other families in our old neighborhood village of Arkansas and Sherwood Sts.
I remember once when Tony took Al, myself and my brother Tom sledding at Delaware park. He gave us a wonderful lesson in wisdom and courage that day, gently guiding us over a little "jump" on the "big hill". It turned out to be great fun!
Tony is a very special person. I'm glad he had a good life and two families to share it with.
Condolences and Blessings.

Dear Fran and Frank,

Kahlil Gibran wrote in the Prophet – “Oh heart, if one should say to you that the soul perishes like the body, answer that the flower withers, but the seed remains. “

You are both remarkable people and a credit to his life.
