Eleanor Adair Obituary

ADAIR-Eleanor Of Little River, SC. Age 85, wife of the late Theodore C. Pietrczak, died Monday, September 24, 2007 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. She was born December 19, 1921 in Batavia, NY, the daughter of the late Jamie and Barbara Anderson Adair. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robin and Jamie Adair. Ms. Adair was retired from R.J. Reynolds Corporation, as the Director of Training in the Food Service Division. She was named Volunteer of the Year for establishing the first soup kitchen in Myrtle Beach. She also did volunteer work for the Chapin Memorial Library and Brook Green Gardens. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach. Ms. Adair wanted to be remembered in a quiet way. Survivors include one sister, Barbara Goodman of Tamarac, FL; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. On behalf of Eleanor's family, sincere thanks to all of you who have visited here for your lovely thoughts and remembrances of this extraordinary lady. You may be interested to know that a memorial service in celebration of Eleanor's life will be held on Sunday, November 11 at 2:00 at the First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach. Donations in her memory may be made to the church's Shepherd's Child Ministry (c/o First United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 1367, Myrtle Beach SC 29578-1367).

We met Eleanor at First United Mehtodist when we moved to Myrtle Beach.We always admired and recognized her service to the church family and the community. You could always count on Eleanor to give of her time to others. Most of all we will remember her love for young people and children. We saw this with our sons and then with their children. While she was still able, her last act of sharing with children was in the two year old Sunday school class, where two of our grandchildren received her love. We will always remember Eleanor and miss her presence with us.

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Mrs. Adair on the Eastport Board. She was a very special lady who had many gifts and talents. She was kind of like the E. F. Hutton of Eastport. She didn't say much but when she spoke everyone listened. I will miss her, but I know she is where we all want to be someday. Praise God.

I worked briefly for Miss Adair on the Plaza Suite account while employed by Service Systems Corporation. I had the highest respect for her - she was truly an amazing individual. My condolences to Miss Adair's family and friends.

Eleanor will be missed. I only knew her for a short time as she was my childs first Sunday School teacher in the 2 year old class at FUMC. She made an impact that will not be forgotten. To her family, you are all in our prayers!

I had the wonderful privilege of working with Ms. Elanor in the 2yr. old Sunday School Class at First Church. She was always full of energy and love for the children. I only knew her for a short time but she had a wonderful impact on me. She will be greatly missed.

Eleanor was my dear confidant and next door neighbor when Bob and I owned a condo in Spinaker Bay for about 8 years. We shared our cooking experiments, discussed everything that could be discussed. I have missed her these 3 years of physical distance. It seems now that she is much nearer! I love her dearly

I came to know Eleanor with her many visits to Camp Swamp United Methodist Church. She was a very sweet person. My daughter Haley has gone many times with the Chamblee girls to swim at her place. Haley thought of her as "Aunt Eleanor". She will be dearly missed by many.

How do you say good-bye to the lady next door who took you for your first haircut and saved a locket of hair to give your bride-to-be 20 years later? The lady with a stare that meant business and a hug that radiated love? The disciplinarian who handed out punishment and butterscotch candies at the same time to a toddler seemingly always in trouble? The mentor that lived life with uncompromising principles, unconditional love for others, and an unmatched devotion to family and friends? Or the friend you trusted most to help in times of need? I don’t know yet other than to thank God for our 46 years together…sharing, laughing, and always loving.

Aunt Ellie was the most special of people to me. Always a pillar of strength and reason, but most importantly love. She was a true friend to my mother, Josephine and has always been an inspiration to me. I will miss our chats on subjects that ranged from work to love and everything in between. I will miss her.

Barbara:
You have my sympathy in Eleanor's death.
I lost track of your family through all these years and am sorry also to read of your brothers' prior deaths.
You may not remember me, but we bought a horse from your father in the late '40s. I was one of the kids/boarders who hung around the Park School barn for years. I lived on Burbank Drive and walked the short distance through the yards to the barn. When your father died, I tended the horses for a couple of days until other arrangements were made. I well remember your father and mother and the apartment where they lived at Park School. Your father particularly had a huge impact on my life. I learned a lot more from him than riding and horses and as I reflect back, I think the one word to describe it might be "responsibility." I still recall how devestated I was when he suffered his sudden stroke.
I believe my father used to ride the bus with Eleanor on occasion to and from work, as I think her office must have been downtown where he maintained a law practice to which I succeeded in 1968 when he died at the young age of 62. My mother survived until 2002 at age 96 and lived in the family home until 1999, when she moved into a new retirement facility in Williamsville.
In 1969 my wife and I took up residence on Audubon Dr. and we are still there. It's still a great neighborhood.
Again, I offer my sympathy and wish you well. Thanks for letting me share some important memories with you.

A tribute to the finest lady and friend of the Eastport/Spinnaker Bay community. Eleanor was the heart & soul of maintaining our community to the highest standards and representing the people of the area with every ounce of her professional experience and understanding.

Eleanor was a true, dependable friend, hard worker, and wonderful baker! She would never refuse to lend a hand for any Mercy Hospice fundraising event; and she helped with many of them for many years. Her guarded crystallized ginger quick bread recipe will be fondly remembered as will the generous lady who selflessly prepared and donated them! The world has lost a precious jewel. I will miss her.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Eleanor. Eleanor not only was so very sweet to my children, she would come and help anytime we needed her at MYF youth group where I had the priviledge of being a leader for a number of years. Eleanor will be missed!

Eleanor was best known to our family as "Auntie Eleanor". She first came into my husband, Daryl's life in the 1960's as a second mother to him Buffalo NY. I was fortunate enough to gain her friendship when we married in 1986. For 21 years we have visited her with our 3 children in Myrtle Beach. Eleanor can best be remembered for her strength, her insightfullness and her ability to love those around her. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She will sadly be missed and never be forgotten.
