Dear Karen and girls,
I was also fortunate to have been on the '76 geology trip out west. Carl was our fearless leader. He took about 10 of us on an all night odyssey of crystal and fossil hunting. One of our stops was a highway in Durango CO, where he spotted crystals growing on the side of a mt ledge. He somehow found a way to climb the sheer wall and got crystals for eveyone. That episode earned him the name "Durango." But what I remember most vividly from that trip was how he bounded off the bus when we got back...as he had spotted Karen from the window. He had missed her so much.
Carl lived his life fully and loved each day . He inspired his students to live the same way...with zest. What an honor and joy it was to have been one of his students.

Dear Karen,
I am so sorry to hear of Carl's tragic passing. I was also on that Geology trip out west in 1976 and to this day, it remains one of the highlights of my life. Carl was so full of life and adventure and so much fun, and a great teacher. My deepest condolences to you and to his entire family.

Karen you and Carl gave me fond memories. I enjoyed the dinners, lunches and helping out. I will always cherish the times when Carl would teach me about rocks and minerals and we would talk about ideas and share stoires. I was especially fond of the time we were collecting in St. Clarie PA.....this memory was a good one. I had found a good place for collecting specimens and notified Carl he was excited and next thing you know a truck drove up and told us to get out. I never say Carl move so fast as he was hauling up the road and I was behind with a barrel of rocks. Or the time me and my brother visited and played ping pong in Key West and fished off the pier.

To Karen and girls:
When I left the funeral home the night you had calling hours, I went home thinking what a wonderful life Carl led and what a joy for you to share it with us. Karen you are a woman with a spirit for life and you have alot of strength. I admire you. God Bless you all!

Karen, Lisa and Julie:
I have just had news of Carl's passing and I wanted you to know how badly I feel about it. When I worked with Lisa in Youth Group Carl and Karen both were "huge" in their support of the group. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dr. Seyfert was not only a dedicated teacher and mentor, he was a good man. He truly cared for us, the students, and our lives, even after graduation. I was a student and assistant on the first Buff State trip out west. He was crazy but great with us. And when I saw him years later, his first concern was how I was doing, then, how were the rest of my classmates.

Prayers and best thoughts to his family and friends.

We are all so sorry to hear of Carl's passing. Our son Troy Rose thought the world of Carl and all he shared with Troy. He will not be forgotten. May God Bless you all at this very sad time.
I spoke with Troy last night when I read about Carl's passing, he feels very bad and wished he could be here. He is living in Florida and send his condolences.
Fondly,
The Rose Family

As a young person living across the street from the Seyfer family, I had the opportunity to travel west twice with Carl. Carl shared his love of the outdoors, his fascination with the natural world and a lighthearted approach to life. To this day, I share fond memories of Estwing hammers, Brunton Compasses and Carls trying to fool the college studenst into thinking an old railroad bed was a glacial formation. Thanks to Carl, I can now talk to my children about rocks and volcanos and take them fishing and explain why a geologist carries a streak plate. On friday, we will say goodbye to Carl's body, but his spirit live in a little bit of so many people and I will pass it to my children. Godspeed Carl, get one more cast into the deep pool before the sun sets.

My condolences to Carl's family. Carl was not just a geology professor; he meant much more to me than that. I still have some of the items I've purchased from his rock&mineral sales (and there are still some in the planetarium gift shop!), and I will not forget his planetary geology lessons, either. It was Carl who inspired me to go on to UMass and take graduate couses in planetary geology. Many of us remember his meteorite theries. Only now, I have come to the realization that he taught us that simply because he himself was the "impact" on our lives.

Prayers and wishes,

OMG, I am so sorry. I just found out now. It hit me pretty hard. Carl was more than a teacher to me. I'm so sorry to have missed his service. I have been praying for him every day. I thought about him when I was driving home and started to cry. When I saw online, I broke down. I was not just a student of Carl. We had a friend ship. I'm so sorry, I have been wanting to visit and talk all year. It was so nice to be invited to the house for dinner with my daughter last year. Please except my condolences

Carl Seyfert was a exceptional college instructor. I looked forward to his class and enjoyed his teaching style. He was warm, humorous and left this student with a life long interest and and understanding of earth science and geology. God comfort and bless his family.

As young as 10 years of age, Ken began an interest in geology.
I first saw his progress in lapidary
the summer that I enjoyed several weeks with the family and getting to know his sister, Gail, who was about my age.
How it impressed me to see the array
of stones and minerals neatly displayed in his room. He delighted in telling me how he could cut a diamond...without smashing it. He seemed amused at my surprise that he could do that. I was young, you see.
This tall, nice-looking cousin had more than a few interests, but this is the one that I remember.
Those who knew him thought highly of him.
He was a great family man!!!
He will be truly missed!

Carl will always be remembered for our Wyoming fishing trips and enjoying a peanut butter and jam sandwich next to the river's edge. He will truly be missed.
