Margaret Kumpf Obituary

KUMPF-Margaret Louise Major (Retired) February 24, 1917-December 3, 2007. Margaret Louise Kumpf entered life eternal on December 3, 2007 after 90 years of selfless devotion and service to others. A native of Buffalo, NY, she graduated from the University of Buffalo School of Nursing as a registered nurse and interned at Buffalo Children's Hospital. After enlisting in the United States Army, Margaret was deployed to Europe and served as an orthopedic nurse in various field and rehabilitation hospitals during World War II. Eventually rising to the rank of Major, she served in numerous hospitals overseas and later in the United States. Upon retirement, Margaret relocated to Largo, FL where she was a loyal member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and the American Legion. She was a dedicated volunteer at Bay Pines V.A. Hospital in St. Petersburg for over 25 years. Margaret was predeceased by her parents Norman and Louise (Reitter) Kumpf, sister and brother-in-law Norma and Jay Eggert, and brother William R. Kumpf. She leaves to honor her memory her devoted sister-in-law Ann Kumpf, Sarasota, FL and beloved nieces and nephew Susan M. (Michael) Fryd of Philadelphia, PA, Linda L. (Alan) Fiester of Tequesta, FL, William J. Kumpf of Lockport, NY, Kristine (Milan) Chilla of Rowayton, CT and Julie (Bob) Willis of Medfield, MA; six great nieces, four great nephews and two great-great-nephews. Margaret will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors on February 4, 2008 at 3 PM. Local arrangements are being handled by MOSS FEASTER FUNERAL HOME, 13401 Indian Rocks Rd., Largo, FL, 727-562-2080.
