Richard Brown Obituary

BROWN-Richard Carl Age 90, of Danville, KY died Friday, December 7, 2007, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born April 9, 1917, in Logan, Ohio, he was the son of the late Carl M. and Jessie Bowen Gompf Brown. Richard served as a U.S. Army paratrooper with the 155th Airborne Anti-Aircraft Battalion during WWII, then earned his bachelor's degree from Ohio State in 1947, his master's degree from Colgate University in 1948 and his doctorate degree from University of Wisconsin. Following a year as the Director at the United States Armed Forces Institute in Madison, WI, he taught American History at Buffalo State College for 27 years. He is a life member of the Wisconsin Historical Society, the American Historical Society, a member of the Danville-Boyle County Historical Society, author of "The History of Danville & Boyle County,' "The History of The Presbyterian Church' and many history textbooks. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Canty Brown of Danville; his sister, Bette Slade of Roswell, NM; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at a later date in Logan, Ohio. Memorial donations may be made to Danville-Boyle County Humane Society or Danville-Boyle County Public Library. Arrangements by STITH FUNERAL HOME, Kentucky.

Dr. and Mrs. Brown were part of my family's life as neighbors and good friends. There was the Christmas when they helped my parents hide an air hockey table for my brothers. Or the time when Dr. Brown drove my parents to the hospital when my mother was about to give birth to one of my brothers...Or the engaging discussions we has about American History. My family sends its condolences to yours. You will always be in our hearts and in our memories.
