RITA WEAVER Obituary

Rita Campbell Weaver of Winnetka, Born Oct. 22, 1922 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Vincent "Barney" and Nora Campbell. Died May 1, 2011 after many years of battling the complications of Sjogren's syndrome. She is survived by her husband of 51 years Everett "Tuck" and her children Robert, William, Marjorie, Helen, Martha, Annamarie, and Paul and 17 grand and great-grandchildren She received her undergraduate and masters degrees in Home Economics and Nutrition from the University of Manitoba. She moved to Chicago to pursue career opportunities and became the Director of Nutrition at the National Livestock and Meat Board. She also served as president of the Chicago Nutrition Association and public relations director for the Illinois Dietetic Association. In 1959, she married her husband, adopted his five children, resigned from the Meat Board and became a homemaker and volunteer worker. She moved to Winnetka with her family in 1960 and lived there for more than 51 years. Along with her husband, she founded the Winnetka Community House fitness center. Until late in life, she remained active in the Chicago Nutritional Association, the North Shore Art League, and the Arts Club of Chicago. She also was active in the Friends of the Winnetka Library and was president for one term. She served as a director of the North Shore Senior Center and was a longtime volunteer at the Christ Church and Winnetka Congregational Church rummage sales. She particularly enjoyed growing and picking raspberries in her backyard. Her sister Joan Campbell and brother Brian Campbell preceded her in death. Trilby and I are distressed with Rita's passing. We met Rita shortly after they were married- probably at one of the BARB"s REunion- Tuck and Max were Shipmates in BARB. Tuck and Rita were a very happy couplme- Rita will be missed.
