Grandma_ as I sit here today I have so many thoughts about your life. You are a classic case of dont judge a book by its cover. From the outside, a stranger might have thought you were crass, stubborn, rough around the edges, unforgiving and someone who kept to themselves. But When I think about you and open the book there was a much diffetent story.I have many fond memories of my childhood. Many words come to mind, generosity, unselfishness, humorous, unconditional love for family, true concern for people that mean the most to you. Up until the last days of her life she was always trying to give, give, give never wanting anything in return or acknowledgement that she did something nice. I can remember many a times when she gave me money for my birthday and christmas every year and I refused to take it and she would get angry with me, so I had to sneak it back in her purse without her knowing. In a time when our government, society, and people of all backgrounds have become incredibly selfish and always looking out for themselves not caring whom they hurt along the way and are so preoccupied with material things and have fits of jealous rage, and disrespectul actions towards their neghbors friends and family. Grandma was truly a breath of fresh air. She was the most unselfish person I have Ever known. Yes she was stubborn, but she had an innate ability to make a person feel as if she cared about you more than anyone else. In the last few months I've learned so much about life I can't even begin to tell you. I have come to grow and respect my mother, aunt darlene, darrell my aunt sarah, nick to the highest level. Of the many days they have spent sitting by my grandmothers side taking care of her making sure she eats, she was comfortable, and most of all, expressing their love for her in their own little ways. It was a true example of what my grandmother was all about. Unselfishness, unconditional love, caring, and compassion. It was fabulous to see all of them come together at a time when grandma needed them most regardless of their differences in the past. I will cherish every moment we had together in the hospital, rehab and in the end hospice. In hospice there was a young child around 7 years old playing on a computer, we found out that he was there because his father was in because he had cancer. He couldn't have been more than 40 years old. It was a true example of never take life for granted, in the end it didn't matter how big my grandmas house was, it didnt matter what kind of clothes she wore, it didnt matter where she went on vacation, or what kind of job she had, what kind of jewelry, how much money she had, or who she favored most. All that mattered was that she had her children there taking care of her and up until the very last days of her life she took comfort in the fact that she bestowed the same values she kept her whole life onto her children. Unselfish, unconditional, compassionate love for her family. I love you grams.
