Roderick Kreitzer Obituary

Roderick G. Kreitzer, aged 83, of Holland, MI, formerly of Grand Rapids, MI and Lake Forest, IL passed away on May 2nd from complications of Alzheimer's Disease, at his residence at Oak Crest of Holland. Beloved husband of the late Anne Kreitzer, he is survived by his children, Gretchen Allen (Jim) of Lake Forest, IL, Amelia Hope (Ian McKercher) of Ottawa, Canada, Peter (Laurie) of Montgomery Village, Maryland and Kate McCoy (Greg) of Holland, MI; he is also survived by nine grandchildren, Nate, Claire, and Jake Allen, Alex and Jay Hope, Dora and Helen Kreitzer and Maggie and Kara McCoy; and a sister, Fran Swanson, of Orinda, CA, and by many treasured friends, colleagues, and devoted caregivers. Rod was born on July 29, 1927 in Wapakoneta, OH, the youngest son of a buggy-maker. He served in the U.S. Army and graduated from the University of Dayton. In 1950 he began employment at the Grand Rapids Chair Company until it was purchased by the Baker Furniture Company in 1957. At Baker, Rod served as road salesman, Director of Product Development and Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Rod was named President of Baker Furniture Company and Chief Executive Officer of Baker, Knapp and Tubbs, Inc. in 1989, a position he held until his retirement in 1994. After retirement he spent most of his time refurbishing antiques and building furniture of his own. Services will be May 10. Arrangements are by Langeland- Sterenberg Funeral Home of Holland.
