Marilyn Engelbrecht Obituary

Marilyn Engelbrecht; loving wife of Lester Engelbrecht; devoted mother of Richard Engelbrecht; and dear sister of Allan Deutsch. Passed into eternal life on Sunday, April 24. Marilyn had been a librarian in the Zion and Palatine school districts. Later she had been a librarian in School District 1271/2 in Chicago Ridge. She was a librarian and teacher in School District 158 in Lansing until retiring in 1993. Since her retirement she had served as president of the Friends of the Alsip-Merrionette Park Public Library and until her death she was an elected Trustee of the Library. Marilyn was devoted to her family and friends. She loved children, pets and books. She read voraciously all of her life. She had a keen interest in science, poetry, Judaica and science fiction. She loved to bake and her chocolate chip cookies were to die for. Most of all Marilyn was a lover of humanity. She always had a kind word for everyone. Her last three years were punctuated with frequent illnesses and discomfort. Yet, she always remained cheerful and pleasant. She was especially grateful to the nurses and staff at Little Company of Mary Hospital for their many kindnesses and excellent care. A memorial remembrance will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, May 13, at the Alsip-Merrionette Park Public Library. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Fried's Cat Shelter, P.O. Box 241, Michigan City, IN 46361.

Marilyn was a wonderul friend and I will miss our visits and talks. Les, you have our deepest sympathy for your loss. We also shared our great friendship with Holley and that was very special too. Marilyn's kindness will remain one of my fondest memories. She touched my life.
