Robert Winkelmann Obituary

Robert "Bob" Winkelmann, 69 years and 3 days, most cherished husband of Karen Rissman/Winkelmann, nee Brodsky; beloved father of Terri (Paul) Henderson, Chris (Cheryl) Winkelmann, and much loved "father" of Steve (Ilisa) Rissman, Jeff (Jean) Rissman, and Laura (David) Shea; special "PAPA BOB" to Emma, John, Charlie, Holly, Colton, Cate, Judge, Shayna, Noah, Ariel, Arlo, Gabe, Sophie, Tatum, and Anabel; devoted son to the late Elmer and Irene, and fabulous son-in-law of the late Irv and Char Brodsky; fond brother of the late Bill Winkelmann (late Dorothy); and proud uncle to many nieces and nephews. Bob was "LARGER THAN LIFE." He and Karen loved to travel, be with family, play golf, and bicker "a little?" But their love for each other lasted for over 30 years and will go on. Bob also was the consummate print salesman for over 35 years. "He could sell ice to Eskimos!" Loved NU Football, just about every type of sport, fishing (especially with Chris and Paul), martinis, et al, and helping others. For the last eight years, he battled leukemia and its side effects but had incredible strength and spirit. A VERY SPECIAL thank you to his stem cell donor, Kerry Lutz, who gave Bob and Karen an extra 4 1/2 years of life together. Services will be held on Monday, May 9, at 11 a.m., at Grace Lutheran Church, 2245 Walters, Northbrook, IL. A "celebration of life" reception will be held immediately following the service, at the church. A Shiva (visitation) will be held on Monday evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Bob and Karen's home in Glenview. For more details, call Grace at (847) 498-3060. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society (lls.org) and Bob would be incredibly happy if you would register for the national bone marrow / stem cell registry at marrow.org or lifesource.org.

Dear karen and family,
Our hearts are aching. Bob fought so hard and so successfully for so long. What a brave and valiant man.
We remember our too short time in Montauk and Bob's awe of the incredible beaches. He left us wonderful memories.
We wish we could take away your pain. We can't but be assured we share at least some of it.
God Bless.

Much love,
Pat and Sal
