Mike,

Cam and I are very sorry for your loss.

I remember when my grandfather was sick, I sat Sabrina down to explain what was happening to him. It was very difficult and I was trying to tell her through the tears. She was three years old at the time and she said to me, “Oh no Mommy, no more tears. B.B. won’t be sick anymore when he gets to heaven.” Instantly I stopped crying. She brought me such peace at that moment. I hope you too can find peace and comfort in the fact that your mom no longer hurts.
Thinking of you,

Scott Leff

Mike,

I know there is really nothing I can say that hasn't been said before, and ultimately grief and loss are things only time can heal, at least in part. I want to say something that would be of comfort to you, but everything I can think of seems pale and thin.

Let me know if there is anything I can do for you my friend.

Mike, thanks for sharing your Mom with us. I'll never forget when we took CJ to visit when he was a few weeks old. She said don't throw the baby in the air because you could hurt the baby and years later the" shaken baby syndrome" became kn...own. She will be remembered. That baby is now healthy and grown up to become a witness to your beautiful wedding. Your Mom raised you properly and taught you to be responsible and caring. Your sisters have been so nice and welcomed me with open arms as their friend. The best Godfather...

To the Stangel Family:
My deepest condolences to all of you. Mrs. Stangel was more than a counselor to me, she was my mom away from home for those 4 yrs at Gage Park H.S. She was the most encouraging, supportive, loving person I knew during that time. She's always come up in conversations through the years when talking about the better parts of my high school years. My brother and mom knew her like family at that time. She touched so many lives. She will be missed. May she rest in peace.

Margaret Cunnea Stangel passed away at age 75 on Monday, May 9, 2011 at Palos Community Hospital from complications due to Rheumatoid Arthritis, an autoimmune disease that escalated into fibrosis of the lungs and later cancer. When diagnosed with cancer, Margaret remained at her home in Oak Lawn, IL; to be near her children and grandson.
Born June 21, 1935 in Chicago to Francis and Emma Cunnea who named her “Sugar”, a term of endearment; her name was later legally changed to Margaret Ann Cunnea, but the nickname stuck with her Irish relatives. Her siblings included: George, Jack, Norma, Mary and Frank.
Survived by a devoted husband of 53 years, George Stangel; her loving children Theresa Stangel, Kathleen Stangel, Cheryl Curry [Stangel] and Michael Stangel; with beloved daughter-in-law Sara Stangel and son-in-law George Curry; Margaret was a wonderful wife and mother. To know her was to embrace a love for life, laughter, family, faith and endurance.
Proud Grandmother of Tyler Curry, loving Godmother to George Schaeffer, Steven Remy, and Laura [Russell] Gray. Foster Mother to 20 infants (her “angels”), and adored Aunt to nieces and nephews of the Cunnea and Stangel families.
Inspirational teacher and counselor for the Chicago Public School system, devout Catholic, dedicated friend, and staunch Republican… the world lost an amazing lady.
We celebrate her life and mourn her passing.
That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruined choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou see'st the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west;
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death's second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see'st the glowing of such fire,
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the death-bed, whereon it must expire,
Consumed with that which it was nourish'd by.
This thou perceiv'st, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well, which thou must leave ere long.
Sonnet 73 – William Shakespeare
A favorite of Mom’s that she recited to us many times by heart

My condolences to all the family especially to Mary and Norma. I grew up a few doors down from you on west 62nd Street, and at that time Margaret was known as Sugar. I believe she passed a few of her dolls down to me. I remember you girls and Frankie well. Please accept my sincere sympathy on her passing. Joyce (Hickey) Matusek
