JACK WIERSEMA Obituary

Jack Berton Wiersema, age 78, of Chicago, died May 6, 2011. He was born Sep. 13, 1932, in Muskegon, MI. Veteran, U.S. Navy, Korean War. Loving son of the late Harry and Grace, nee Broekema; beloved partner of the late Thomas Allen Bailey for over 38 years; dear brother of Ann (Donald) Schepel and the late Doris Groeneveld; fond brother-in-law of Richard Bailey; cherished uncle of Cherie (Gale) Denslow, Dawn (Louis) Martin, Lisa (Mark) Morrissey, Jeffrey (Eva) Van Dyke, Gary and Greg (Wanda) Groeneveld. Jack loved opera and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Bel Canto Competitions at Monastero's Ristorante. An avid Shakespeare fan, he also loved to travel. He was a faithful member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Evanston. Memorial Service Saturday, June 11, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1509 Ridge Ave., Evanston. Interment will follow in the church's memorial garden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bel Canto Foundation, c/o Monastero's Ristorante, 3935 W. Devon Ave., Chicago, IL, 60659.

I worked with Jack for several years and always knew him to be kind and considerate. He occasionally would come in to visit us and we were always glad to see him. He will be missed.
