It was with great sadness that I read of Mr. Lind's passing. He was a warm, wonderful, inspiring teacher. I was fortunate to be in his Chemistry and Physics classes at Bloom High School during the late 1970's and I will always remember his kind, almost grandfatherly demeanor, his expectation of excellence for all his students, and his attire -- he wore a suit and tie almost every day.
He had a reassuring way of dealing with the sometimes rowdy young men in class which maintained respect and allowed them to save face. He was a strong mentor for the young women, instilling in them the belief that they could succeed in the field of science. His whiz-bang demonstrations were legendary; but they served a purpose beyond making his students' jaws drop. His labs were an immersion into the scientific method. Back then, we called him "cool;" today he would be "awesome."
I only knew him as a teacher, but in reading of his accomplishments in both his professional and personal life, I can certainly say: "that sounds like something Mr. Lind would do."
I am a better person for having been taught by him. He will be missed by many, even those who knew him only briefly, because, as a teacher, he truly touched eternity.
My sincerest condolences to his family and friends,
Joanne Zienty
