CHARLES STEWART Obituary

Charles L. Stewart, of Northbrook, formerly of Glencoe and Urbana, passed away May 17, 2011 at age 91. He graduated from the University of Illinois, Louisiana State University and University of Chicago where he received his JD degree. He was employed in the U.S. Department of Agriculture before serving in the U.S. Army in the Research and Analysis Branch of the OSS during World War II. In Chicago he was a partner in the law firm Mayer Brown and became Corporate Secretary and General Counsel for Hartmarx Corporation. Retirement brought enjoyment as a volunteer arbitrating for the Mandatory Arbitration Program of the Circuit Court of Cook County, pursuing family genealogy, reading, bicycling and attending family events. He was preceded in death by siblings James, Margaret and Barbara. He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years Edalee G. Stewart; four children, Bill, Tom, Kay and Bob; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be scheduled later. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends make a donation to a charity of their choice. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Illinois, for info: 847-577-6505
