I knew Fred when we both worked at the National Safety Council in Chicago and he was very kind, thoughtful and professional in his efforts. We both worked for the president of the Council, the late Governor Howard Pyle, who earlier was the chief executive of the state of Arizona and then prior to joining the Council a top aide to President Dwight D. Eisenhower as a liaison to state governments.

I continue to have the deepest respect and gratitude to both Fred and Governor Pyle for their kindness toward me. I was also happy to read that Fred's contribution toward child safety in motor vehicles has been acknowledged. Both he and Governor Pyle are owed our nation's gratitude and thanks for their efforts in that and all other areas of motor vehicle safety as well. I mourn the loss of these two great leaders.
