Sandy and I were coworkers at the Adler Planetarium for the past nine years. It was an honor to have known and to have worked with a woman who was so beloved by all.

She was kind, humble, soft-spoken, sweet-natured, hard working, and accommodating. She also had a playful side, but the word that describes her best is, “private.“ She would quietly recede into the background when discussions took a personal turn.

Sandy was an excellent listener who could keep a secret like no one else I ever knew. She said very little when she spoke and her favorite word seemed to be, “Yes.” If she disagreed with something she kept it to herself.

Sandy also enjoyed participating in coworker celebrations and we would often walk together to the conference room for these parties, but she would peel off and enjoy them from the sidelines. When the department gave her a party for her 65th birthday she was delighted, although a bit embarrassed at all the attention, but she enjoyed the love it expressed and she was grateful.

Sandy admired the famous Chef, Julia Child and Channel 11’s John Calloway. She knew a lot about both. However, her favorite subject was Edgar Cayce and it was the only subject about which I ever saw her become animated. She even joined a weekly discussion group regarding the life and teachings of Cayce. In April she used her last bit of strength to meet with a Cayce healer who laid hands on her.

To her surviving sister and family members may I say how truly sorry I am for your loss. For me she will always be close by because she will be in my thoughts as I move about through the Adler and that will give me great comfort.

With profound sympathy to Sandy's family from one of her co-workers. It was such a shock to hear of her passing, which was much too soon. I'll miss her kindness and gentle demeanor.

My condolences to you, Rebecca and Amanda. Sandy was a classmate of mine at Clayton Center School, a one room rural school with 12 students in all 8 grades! Sandy and I often paired up for square dances and other folk dances we were taught in school.

I lost contact with her after high school and was shocked to see her name in the Post Crescent Obituaries. Age 65 seems way too young to check out.

I enjoyed knowing her, with her shy smile and very shy personality in her adolescent years.

May God rest her soul.
