Sis. Cindy and Family,
Our prayers remain with you, as do our fond memories of the Harvest Garage Sale (for which we raised tons for the kids), the awesome times of worship of the Father, and the example of selfless love you emanated toward each other and those around you --especially our four children :-)

We will always remember him in the present and look forward to that glorious meeting again in the sky!

With All of Our Love,

Peter, Demoda, PJ, Josh, Tiara, & Josiah Ogunsanya

Dear Cindy,
I wish to express my sympathy to you and your family at the passing of your husband. I have fond memories of you from St. Lambert's and Regina. I remember how nice it was to see you at my Sweet 16 party given by my mother. May the Holy Spirit comfort you at this time of loss. You may find the book NINETY MINUTES IN HEAVEN by Don Piper a source of comfort.

Dear Cindy and Family, Doug and I want you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers. We stopped by to see Chris on Wednesday and were told by the staff to contact you. I will always remember Chris arriving at The Kellogg Center on his bike. He told us he had no intention of giving up who he was. I admired his strength, determination and courage. He accepted his diagnosis with grace. Cindy, it was apparent the first time we met you that you and Chris shared a loving, faith filled relationship. You are leaving a beautiful legacy of love for your children. I know Chris fought the good fight and is now resting in peace with the Lord.
I am so sorry we were unable to attend the memorial service tonight. Our youngest son's graduation was at 4:00. We feel blessed to have known Chris for even a short while.

With Love,

Robert Somerman

The Short Family located at the North end of Kolmar Ave. and the Somerman Family located at the South end of Kolmar Ave. were tied at the hip during the late 60's and early 70/s. From sports, lifting weights in the Short Family Garage, running passing routes till we collapsed, shooting baskets and playing firiendly or unfriendly pickup games( Rich, to this day I am sorry about your tooth), or ice skating ( wishing Chuck McCumber would twist an ankle so somebody else could win POM POM for once), to music, playing air guitar with tennis rackets in the Somerman Family basement , picking apart guitar arpeggios on Yes albums, and singing our fool heads off, as families we spent alot of time running back and forth between homes and sharing families, food, fun, and growing up in the 60's. Our poor mothers and the laundry they had to keep up with. Always at the center of things was Chris Short. Chris was an inspiring figure to me. We played alot of football in Oakton Park. Chris in my mind was Lynn Swann before there was a Lynn Swan. Tall, graceful and fast with a pinch of Irish temper, Chris was a prototype receiver. You did not want to tangle over the middle with Christopher R. Short. If he did not 'deke' you out of your shorts and blow by you with his speed he might knock you aside with a stiff arm or wack you with a well aimed elbow. We always had an amazing amount of fun and through those countless hours of playing, and as I look back an amzaing amount of discipline, we developed our own physical 'chops' which translated to our own athletic success. Chris was relentless in this regard, he was a perfectionist and pushed all of us to achieve something beyond ordinary. He was also a great teacher taking time to explain the intricacies of how to run a pass pattern, or showing the fingering to a guitar part. Always with Love and Patience. I have very fond memories of Chris and not the least bit surprised that he became a teacher for the many reasons I have mentioned in this epistle. During my own battles growing up I used to talk with Chris about the frustrations I encountered and his advice was keenly on target and especially helpful. The other great memory has to do with Chris' Spirituality and his strong religious beliefs in Jesus Christ and Father God. Chris applied the same discipline that made him an All Conference Receiver and a Beloved Teacher to the study of Christ and God. Or maybe that discipline was an outcropping of his strong spiritual beliefs and he was able to be a success as a result of this strong faith. Whatever it was it affected me to the point that I attended a Church Service with the Shorts and eventually accepted Christ into my own life. So Chris Short had a positive affect on me and now it is a sad time to say a sad goodbye to one of my childhood and neighborhood Icons. Sometimes you have to stop and pause and let people know the inner workings of relationships that affect their lives and I have taken this time to do just that. So this is my eulogy to Chris and my heatfelt condolences to Cindy and the children and to Brothers Tim, Mike, Rich, and Sister Mary, and the Matriarch Doris. Im glad we got to know each other and had a chance to share our lives, families and experiences. May Chris rest in Peace.
