JUDITH WALSH Obituary

Judith A. "Judy" Walsh, nee Collins, age 76 years, entered into Eternal Life Saturday, June 4, 2011. She was a long time resident of Wauwatosa and spent her summers in Minong, WI. She will always be remembered by her beloved husband, Atty. Gerald S. Walsh; her fond children, Laurence Gerard (Erin), Kieran James (Cynthia), Kevin Quinn (Mary), Peter Joseph (Beth), Mary Elizabeth (Gary) Wendler and Shannon Francis Walsh; and fourteen cherished grandchildren; she will be further remembered by her brother-in-law, Kieran Walsh; sisters-in-law, Rita (Joe) Zielinski and Catherine (Bruce) Hoffmann; as well as many other relatives, friends, special pet, McKenzie and the countless friends and neighbors she touched over the years. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Atty. Laurence and Rosebelle "Reks" Collins; and her dear daughter, Cathleen Bridget Walsh. Visitation will be Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Christ King Catholic Church, 2604 N. Swan Blvd., Wauwatosa from 4 p.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 7 p.m. followed immediately by a reception in the North Hall for family and friends. Private Interment at Wisconsin Memorial Park. Judy was a graduate of Messmer High School, class of 1953, Marquette University, class of 1957 and a life member of Kappa Beta Gamma Sorority. After graduation, Judy was dedicated to education and the rearing of children. She taught in the Milwaukee Public School System, and she actively participated in the education and orientation of hundreds of students at McKinley Elementary School in Wauwatosa. Judy was an active member of the Parish and the choir of both Christ King and St. Mary's in Minong, WI. She assisted in starting Books Behind Bars on behalf of the Milwaukee Bar Association. She was a faithful volunteer for over 20 years with the St. Vincent de Paul Meal Program, where she placed thousands of reminder phone calls to parishioners to prompt their donations of Jell-O and buns. Only the Lord will really know just how many of the poor or homeless Judy helped to feed over the years. We know that so many people will miss her sweet phone calls, warm and friendly voice and the silent way she would preach the Gospel each month. The family wishes to express special thanks for the compassion and love extended to Judy by Horizon Hospice Care Givers, Nancy, Renne, Kelly, Jessica and Pamela. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Judy's name to Christ King Parish, St. Vincent de Paul Meal Program or Messmer High School.

Dear Gerry and the entire Walsh family,
I was so saddened to hear of Judy's passing. I cannot find the right words to say how sorry I am and also that I just found out last night (June 18) and missed her funeral. I was honored to know Kathy, Judy, and Gerry such a short time through St Pius X Saturday masses. I will have some masses said for Judy.

To Gerry and the entire Walsh clan,

We'll greatly miss Judy on those beautiful Wednesday and Sunday mornings at St Mary's in Minong when she and Gerry joined in the liturgies and those wonderful post-mass gatherings where we really got to know her. What a gift to St.Mary's she has been!

Dear Walsh Family, We remember Judy so fondly for her dedication to Mc Kinley Elementary's playground duty. She was a great friend and wonderful mother. Her daughter Shannon was in our son Bill's class. She was tremendously kind and uplifting to all. The Leach Family

To Mr. Walsh and the Walsh family,
We had the privilege of knowing Mrs. Walsh for only a few short years--as that's when her son, Peter, came into our lives. We have many fond memories; the most recent on Mother's Day of this year. She will surely be missed. Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family.

Dear Walsh Family,

I have known Mrs. Walsh for many years now and have many fond memories of her. It was always fun to talk with her because, between her children and all of her friends, she always had an interesting story to share. Mrs. Walsh looked for the good things in the people she knew and helped to build a positive community. She liked to laugh and was always friendly and kind. I looked to Mrs. Walsh to be the calm in the middle of the swirling Walsh family. She will be greatly missed. You have my deepest condolences on the loss of your beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.

My deepest sympathy to the Wash family. I remember all of you, as we were neighbors some thirty odd years ago. Judy was always such a fun person and we spent lots of time together watching "little ones" on 90th Street. My three sons, Tim, Tom and David still tell stories of those days!

My prayers are with you.

I want to express my condolences for your loss. I remember first meeting Aunt Judy at mine and Steven’s wedding. I did not meet her again for some time, however she remembered my name as well as my sons’ names from my first marriage. You don’t realize how important that was to me, nor the impact it had on me. That right there speaks volumes as to the kind of person Aunt Judy was. She was a kind, compassionate and caring woman. She made you feel comfortable from the moment you approached her. She obviously cared and that came through loud and clear. Just know that she truly was one of a kind, and I will always remember her and her kindness.

Since Aunt Judy passed, I can’t help but think about her so much. Such a strong, resilient person. You never realize how much you miss someone until you lose them. She left memories that will carry on forever in my heart and mind. I remember my family invading for family occasions. All these additional people never overwhelmed Aunt Judy; she always welcomed our company with open arms. As I reminisce about all the good times, certain thoughts come to mind. I remember her driving up north, car packed with kids on backcountry roads looking for deer. Spotting black bears. Talking with her about Bucks and Marquette basketball. Recently watching the NCAA tournament with her, discussing kid issues. She always had knowledgeable answers, some quite funny based on her own experiences. An extremely generous person, her love of animals compares to no other that I know. I think of her smile and infectious laugh, so contagious. It didn’t matter what mood you arrived in, time with her left you light hearted and happy. My thoughts start sadly but end with me smiling, remembering all of the great times. In this time of sorrow, I think of a quote by Seneca, “Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for kindness”. Aunt Judy, you always took advantage of that opportunity and I thank you for all that you have shared. Thank you Uncle Jerry, Larry, Jim, Kevin, Mary, Peter and Shannon for letting me share in your mom’s attention and Cathy’s comforting memory. I am so sorry for your loss. In your time of sorrow, I think of this quote, “In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer” by Albert Camus. In your pain, that invincible summer will get you through. Those memories, those precious shared moments. Nothing can ever take them away. As the years fade, while the pain does not go away, it eases due to the fond memories that only the heart and mind can provide.
