HARRY R. JONES

Harry R. Jones, age 90, a longtime resident of Naperville, IL and Clearwater, FL, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2011 at the Westbury Care Center in Lisle. He was born Dec. 18, 1920 in Russellville, AL. Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Marlyd (nee Thompson); his loving daughters, Sandra Jones and Bonni (Patrick) Ford; and his wonderful grandchildren, David Jones, Jennifer, Michael and Samantha Ford. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Maude Jones and his siblings, Howard, Travis and Diane. Harry counted himself fortunate to receive a scholarship to play football for the University of Illinois. He was a proud US Marine Corps Veteran of World War II who served four years in the Pacific Theatre, achieving the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. He spent his career as a salesman and business owner in the book bindery industry and enjoyed his retirement in Florida. He was also a past member of Cress Creek and Naperville Country Clubs. The family would appreciate memorials to the US Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, June 8, 1 p.m. until the time of the Celebration of Harry's life begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S Mill St, Naperville.
