Joan Clifford McAndrew, 93, of Avoca, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Wesley Village Nursing and Rehab Center, Pittston.
She was born in Avoca, Aug. 29, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Michael and Bridget Cavanaugh Clifford.
Joan was a member of Queen Of The Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. She was a graduate of Avoca High School, Class of 1948. Joan was a proud member of the Avoca Jolly Girls, The Clifford Club and the West Side Social Club. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother known as "Grandma The Great," sister and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Raymond F. "Chick" McAndrew, on June 11, 2019; sisters, Mildred George, Marie McAndrew, Peg Allardyce and Betty Timlin; and brothers, Earl, Joseph, Michael, Jack, William and Alfred "Al" Clifford.
Joan is survived by her children, Patrick and his wife, Teresa, Avoca; Eileen Krzak and her husband, Raymond, Avoca; Ann Culp and her husband, David, Dupont; Thomas and his wife, Jackie, Avoca; Robert and his wife, Colleen, Scranton; Kevin and his wife, Lori, Avoca; and Kay Shamnoski and her husband, Stephen, Avoca; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Queen Of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, with the Rev. Phillip J. Sladicka officiating. Friends may call for a viewing from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc. 255 McAlpine St. Duryea. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church on Saturday for the Mass as there will be no procession from the funeral home. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Avoca.
