We were so fortunate that Chuck chose the Arden-Carmichael News to write for. His columns were the work of a writer who knew his craft well; who chose subjects with an intriguing story to tell -- and his telling of them was exceptional.

We all lost him too soon.

Our condolences to his family. Thank you for sharing him with us.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. One of the memories that I have of Chuck was on the Relay For Life a couple of years ago. We had been going back and forth as who the leader was on the amount of donations and I think he won in the end. But it was my turn to walk the track for an hour and he was to walk after me and he was there early and walked most of my hour with me to keep me company. We had a really nice conversation. I will miss him!

On the (endless really) list of great things I grew to know and love about Chuck, my heart always warmed to his love of his Chico cousins' cooking. And, he made sure we knew just how much he appreciated the effort and heart that went into our food.

Then later, when our family opened Cafe Flo, he was equally supportive and enthusiastic. The cafe is around the corner from Trinity Methodist Church which made it all the more perfect as a part of Chuck's extended family.

As a reminder of his love of art and home cooking, we are placing a plaque dedicated to Chuck on a mosaic art work that graces the entry way to the cafe.

Even though I believe that your warmth, intelligence, and humor will live on in Becky,Holly, and Timothy, we miss you, Chuck.

Mary (speaking for all your Chico Gardner Cousins)

Becky, Holly, & Tim - I am so very sorry for your loss. There are so many memories over the almost 30 years that we were friends. It is hard to believe that he lost this battle. Take care and God bless you.

By complete chance today, I found out that Chuck had passed on. I knew Chuck at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. We were in the Cal Poly Bands together. Those were the best times in our lives! We had so much fun, great experiences, and wonderful memories. The last time I saw Chuck was at the European Band Reunion. Chuck wore the special outfit/uniform we wore for the casual European outdoor concerts! He was the only person to wear the outfit and to even consider or think about wearing it! I am so sorry about the loss of Chuck. Ride High You Mustangs!

Dear Becky, Holly, Tim, and everyone whose life Chuck touched in his beautifully inimitable way,

What a travesty that one so loving, so thoughtful, and so generous with his many gifts has departed this life so soon! Fortunately his legacy lives on in his beautiful family and his prolific writings. I will never forget his gentle wit and infinite good will, throughout the many years of our friendship - he was a steadfast friend to all who had the good fortune to know him.

Many blessings to each of you,
Carpe Diem!
