Robert Morris Obituary

Robert Josiah Morris Jan. 20, 1926 - Jan. 4, 2004 Robert Josiah Morris of Orinda, CA was born in Bloomingdale, Indiana. "Bob" as he was called by family and friends, participated in the Navy in WWII, 1944-1946. He graduated from Purdue University as an electrical engineer in 1950. After working in Indiana and the Bay Area, he was employed as an engineer at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory for 33 years. He retired from the lab in December 1987. He married Mary Jo Darby in 1961 in Berkeley where they lived prior to their move to Orinda in 1973. Bob enjoyed music, history, theatre, art, museums and science. Music was very important in his life. He designed and built a stereo system. And, he played the clarinet in school and in his adult life. He regularly attended many Bay Area theatre productions and also enjoyed most British television programs. Bob enjoyed travel, art museums, the Samuel Pepys Diaries and most anything from Great Britain. He is survived by Jo Morris of Orinda, his wife of forty two years; his son, Mahlen Morris and his wife Diane of San Francisco; and his son, Clark Morris, his wife Jill and their son Kyle of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by two sisters, Rhoda Gassman and Kate Hawkins. Memorial contributions may be made in remembrance to the local chapter of Planned Parenthood, Shasta Diablo, 2185 Pacheco St., Concord, CA 94520-2309. No public service will be held. His friends and family will miss his kind humor and his thoughtful ways. Bob was always a gentleman.
