Bruce Stern Obituary

STERN Bruce E. Stern, devoted husband of 36 years to Judi, proud father of Marin and Gregory and brother to Eileen passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2007. He was 64. A lifelong resident of the Bridgeport and Trumbull area, he was a practicing attorney for almost 40 years. He served the Town of Trumbull for 14 years as Town Treasurer and was Chairman of the Trumbull Library Expansion Committee. At the time of his passing, he sat on the Board of Directors of the National Rifle association for 11 years. Mr. Stern graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1964 and earned his J.D. at NYU followed by his Masters at the University of Bridgeport. A Captain in the U.S. Army, Mr. Stern was a Vietnam veteran and member of American Legion Post 141. His passion for firearms and gun owners' rights was evident in his lifetime memberships in the Ye Connecticut Gun Guild, Forks of the Delaware Historical Arms Society, Inc., Stratford Gun Collectors' Association, Inc., Ohio Gun Collectors' Association and the National Rifle Association. He was founder and president of the Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen. Other hobbies included photography and traveling the globe. Constantly seeking the perfect shot, his photos both adorned office and home. A man of his word, he touched the lives of everyone he met. His work ethic, morality and tireless ambition drove his daily life and his loyalty to his friends and family was met with uncommon reciprocation. There will be no calling hours and services will be private. The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.

Dear Judi and family
It warmed my heart to have this reminder of Bruce. It rekindled many memories of the years that our families spent together while our kids were growing up. Bruce was one of the kids. Our families had many wonderful family gatherings together As years passed he was always there for support and counsel. He always gave opinions freely. I still have a few of the collectable pieces that he recommended that I buy. Love to all the family. Wally and Carol Shapiro

Bruce is still missed and always appreciated. It has been over 10 years and so much has happened. I was talking with an NRA Board member down here the other day and we got into the talking about Bruce and his impact on so many people. Several years before the tragic event Cathy and I were invited by Bruce to come visit. We met first at his office and the went to his house. He gave us a guided tour of his collection and I still am in awe. I also remenber rambling in the kitchen st the top of the refrigerator for original drawings for the Mosin Nagant production in the US. Bruce and Judi were incredibly gracious and kind and most welcoming.
It's very very difficult to meet people like Bruce and Judi in todays environment. I trust all is well with the children and the family. The world did lose a shining light and all of us lost a friend and wonderful counselor

Dear Judi and family of Bruce,
I am truly sadden to hear about the loss of Bruce. I've known Bruce for about 30 years, first through his association with my flying buddies at the airport... which eventually led to Bruce doing the closing on my present home in January 1978. From that point forward, Bruce was a presence in my life due to our belonging to the same clubs and organizations. Bruce's passion and zeal to protect our Second Amendment rights was evident to all who knew him. He was so very dedicated in this effort and the NRA should be very proud to have had him as a director of their organization. Bruce was very active with the Coalition of CT Sportsmen and the Stratford Gun Collectors Association. He kept everyone at SGCA apprised of pending legislation and encouraged everyone to get involved in legislative matters. I know he will be truly missed by all who knew him and life for me will not be the same without Bruce, but I will never forget Bruce! I give my heartfelt condolences to all of his family and will keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

Judi & family--

I was so sorry to hear of Bruce's passing. He was a good friend and a great fellow. It is a very sad thought that we won't be hearing his jests and puns and quips -- I never knew a man better at those -- again, at least on this side of the river.
