Rudolf Blazevich Obituary

Blazevich, Rudolf
Rudolf Blazevich, long time resident of San Pedro died on November 19, 2007 just a few weeks after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. He was 82 years old. Rudolf was the father of John Z. Blazevich, CEO and founder of Contessa Premium Foods. Rudolf Blazevich was born on March 23, 1925 to Manda and Stanko Blazevic in Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina. In 1948 he married Ljubica Violet Majstorovic. Committed to making a better life for his wife and his son, Rudolf in 1955, escaped from communist rule in the former Yugoslavia. Three years later he settled in the United States of America and was reunited with his wife and son in Los Angeles, California. Rudy, as he was affectionately called, was a trained European chef. However in 1959, once the family settled in San Pedro, most of his career was involved in the fishing industry. After his retirement in 1984 he was employed by Contessa Premium Foods as its Corporate Chef. Rudolf was a very active member of the Southern California Croatian community. He was blessed with an infectious sense of humor, good looks, and a determination to make the most of what life has to offer. He traveled extensively throughout the world, visiting 6 of the 7 continents before his death. He was to complete his final continental quest to Antarctica with his son and grandson Andreas in early 2009 to celebrate Andreas high school graduation. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Blazevich family on your loss. I will remember the times that Rudy and I spent on the road working at the Contessa trade shows. No one could outwork this man. They broke the mold after Rudy came along. I will miss him. May God continue to bless and keep you in these sorrowful times.
