Richard Butler Obituary

VARINA - Richard Bowen Butler Sr., 68, of Varina, Va., died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008.
He was the owner of Butler Body Shop for 31 years. Richard was a member of Shackelfords Chapel United Methodist Church, Manchester Masonic Lodge # 14, and the Gloucester American Legion. He was an Army veteran. Richard was an avid outdoorsman and hunter.
He was preceded in death by his father, William O. Butler; his mother, Rosetta T. Booker; a sister, Carolyn B. Keener, and her husband, Kenneth; surrogate parents, Thornley and Hannetta Chandler.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sandra S. Butler; a son, Richard B. Butler Jr., and his wife, Robin; two daughters, Gay B. King, and her husband, Burke; Kimberly B. Smith, and her husband, Mike; grandchildren, Megan, Claire and Peyton Butler, Caroline and Taylor King, Jacqueline and Tyler Smith; and a brother, William D. Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held noon Friday, Aug. 15, at Shackelfords Chapel United Methodist Church, 3727 Buena Vista Road, Plain View, Va. (King & Queen County). Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Aug. 14, at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th St., West Point, Va. A Masonic rite service will be held at 5 p.m. today, Aug. 14, at the funeral home.
