Charles Gabler Obituary

AIKEN, S.C. - Charles Whitfield Gabler, of Aiken, S.C., a former resident of Hampton, Va., died Aug. 12, 2008.
Charlie was born in Lynchburg, Va., in 1933, and was a resident of Hampton, Va., until 1995. He was a 1952 graduate of Hampton High School and served in the United States Marine Corps. He retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in Newport News, Va., after 36 years of service as a Design Supervisor in the Nuclear Engineering and Design Department.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Ann Gabler, of Aiken, S.C.; and two daughters, Jane Rogers and her husband, Tom, of Fairport, N.Y., Suzanne Escuadra and her husband, Joey, of Yorktown, Va.; three grandchildren, Alexandra Boykin of Tampa, Fla., Zachary Boykin and Kaelyn Escuadra, both of Yorktown, Va. He is also survived by a brother, Hampton Clay Gabler Jr., and his wife, Adina, of Hampton, Va.
He was predeceased by his parents, Hampton C. Gabler Sr. and Ora Mason Gabler, of Hampton, Va.
Charlie was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church and the 'Saints Alive' Sunday School Class in Aiken, S.C. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League, James L. Hammond Detachment #939, Aiken, S.C.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Millbrook Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Bodkin, Associate Pastor of Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C., a special friend and former pastor of Charlie and Ann.
