Irene Powell Obituary

HAMPTON - On Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, God called our beloved lady, Irene Elizabeth Powell, home. She was born March 13, 1939, to the late Willie Powell, father, and the late Daisy Hurdle-Powell, mother, of Ahoskie, N.C.
Irene Powell was a woman that loved the Lord and had an understanding of His Word. She spent a great portion of her life in the Newport News, Va., area in which she worked as a food processor, homemaker, daycare provider, and, most of all, a loving mother to three children that God blessed her with. Irene had a passion for people and loved to sit around to talk with them and eat good food with family and friends. She also enjoyed talking on the phone to friends and family and shared whatever she had willingly with all those around her.
Irene was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children: sons, Kurtis Powell and Gregory Powell, both of Newport News, Va., one daughter, Delores Powell of Newport News, Va.; two daughters-in-law, Maria Powell and Vanessa Powell; one future son-in-law, Lionel Poindexter; two grandchildren, Jasmine and Jaaneka Powell; three aunts, Sally Campbell, Jimmy Knight, and Rosetta Holloman; and a host of relatives and friends that loved her dearly.
Viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at M.E. Fisher Funeral Home. Homegoing celebration will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will assemble by 1 p.m. Saturday at 1640 Terminal Ave., Newport News, for the procession.
Services of Celebration and Remembrance entrusted to the M.E. Fisher Funeral Home, 2117 Madison Ave., 757-245-3302. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
