Joseph Sewell Obituary

YORKTOWN - SMSGT Joseph Wilbur Sewell, USAF (Retired), 75, was transformed by the grace of God and the salvation power of Jesus into eternal life on Aug. 15, 2008. Born in Baltimore, Md., he was a resident of Yorktown, Va., for 34 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille M. Sewell; and parents, Edna Irene and Joseph Herman Sewell.
Cherishing memories of Joseph are his two sons, Mark and Orrin; four grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Hale and Shirley Mercer; three nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 3009 Chestnut Ave., Newport News, Va.
A homegoing service will be held noon Thursday, Aug. 21, at First Baptist Church of Hampton, 229 North King St., Hampton, Va. Viewing will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home until the hour of the family visitation and two hours prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, in Arlington National Cemetery.
The family gratefully appreciates the love and support received during this time of grief and sorrow.
In lieu of flowers, the family graciously request that donations be made to the American Red Cross or the American Diabetes Association.

I was so sad to hear about Joe's passing. He was a great friend and I have missed seeing him on our Friday Foursome Bowling League at LAFB. He had a special heart and was so friendly to all. My prayers goes out to all his family members and friends who knew him. Rest in peace Joe.
