Edna Clayton Obituary

SPRING GROVE - Edna B. Clayton, 82, departed this life on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at Sentara Obici Hospital after a long illness.
A lifelong resident of Surry County, she was born on September 8, 1925, to the late Earlie Edward and Nellie Laura Bailey. She attended Surry County Public Schools and was a member of Lebanon Church, serving as a missionary. She was also a member of Grace Union Chapter #56 Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Clayton was a homemaker and a superb cook. A woman of great strength and integrity, she was devoted to her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Mrs. Clayton was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Clarence (Squeaky) Clayton; five brothers, Earlie Bernard, Alfred Pernell, Jeremiah, William Harold and James Henry; and one sister, Alma N. Baylor.
She leaves to cherish her memories four sons, Clarence, Joseph (Jacqueline), Joel, and Alvin (Elva); four daughters, Gracie, Gwendolyn (Pervis), Gail and Gina; 15 grandchildren, including a very devoted granddaughter, Natasha Byrd-Berkley (Tony); nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Joshua Joseph; three sisters, Betty E. Bailey, Mary W. Bailey, and Peggy E. Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Lebanon Baptist Church with Pastor Gregory Spurlock officiating, and the eulogy by Dr. James Harrison. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Davis Cemetery.
