Lizzie Kirkpatrick Obituary

HAMPTON - Lizzie Langford Kirkpatrick answered the Master's call peacefully on Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, in W. Covina, Calif. Her life's journey began on Feb. 15, 1925, the daughter of the late William and Hattie Langford in Hertford County, N.C. She was a resident of Hampton for over 80 years.
She accepted God at an early age, and was a faithful and dedicated member of West Covina's Baptist Church. She was a loving and kind person and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Hattie Langford; husband, James Kirkpatrick; brothers, William, Bud, John, William Jr., Jerome and Hersey Langford; sisters, Emma Fleetwood, Janie Hendricks, Delores (Cutie) Messiah, Arlene Liggins, Mattie Butts and Gwendolyn Langford.
She leaves to cherish her blessed memories, her brother, Rudy Langford; her sister, Edmona McNeil; and many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her nieces, Linda Pulley, Carolyn Bell, Debbie Gray and Brenda Murchison. Gloria Jones, Thelma Scott, and Shirley Winder were her dearest friends, and considered them as members of the Langford family. She also leaves to cherish her memories, Steve Anderson, an adopted son and her favorite cousin who was like a brother, who often called her Dorothy Dandridge, and she loved Ralos (Jake) Porter for saying that.
Memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at The Open Door Baptist Church, located at 105 E. Cummings Ave., Phoebus section of Hampton. The Rev. Dr. Chauncey Mann will officiate assisted by Bishop Arthur House, Pastor Gail Roberts-House and Evangelist Brenda Murchison. Repast immediately following the service. Family and friends will be received on the lower level of the church. For information, call Rudy Langford at 757-722-3476. My Aunt Lizzie will be greatly missed; but she left behind cherishable memories that I will never forget. Aunt Lizzie, I love you with all my heart and look forward to one day being able to see you again. To my Uncle Rudy, my Aunt Edmona, my cousins, other family and friends - let's remember the wonderful things about Aunt Lizzie, the happy times we shared with her, and the laughter.
