Robert Fishel Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Robert L. 'Bob' Fishel Jr., 69, passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening, Aug. 23, 2008.
He was born Sept. 1, 1938, to Robert L. Fishel and Lillian Elizabeth Nettles who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Sherwood 'Butch' Fishel and David Fishel.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Joyce; his daughter, Kristie Brewer of Maryville, Tenn.; stepson, Michael Haley and his wife, Fonda, of Scottsville, Va.; stepson, David Haley, and his wife, Marsha; and granddaughter, Lauren, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; his sister, Shirley Fishel, of Hampton; his uncle, Roland Nettles, and his wife, Caroline, of Tabb; his nephew, Phillip Fishel, and his wife, Kelli, and their sons, Justin and Jacob; his nephew, Chris Fishel, and his wife, Sheri 'Missy,' and their children, Alisha, David, and Kayla; and his two feline companions, Oscar and Felix, whom he spoiled rotten.
He worked for Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company for 22 years, leaving there in 1989, and also retired from OK Moving and Storage Company in Norfolk, Va., in 1996. He was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard in the late '50s and early '60s.
Bob was a member of Newport News Moose Family Center #1119, and previously Warwick Moose Family Center #1711. He was always busy doing something, but his passion was cooking to please everyone he knew, whether it was at one of the Moose Lodges, or for the people in his doctors' offices, or even for the staff of restaurants where he frequently went. He also loved to play Bingo and was really very lucky at it.
Bob had numerous medical issues over the years, but he never let it get him down. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bob's wish was to be cremated. Weymouth Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Weymouth Funeral Home by the Rev. Gail Long and Wally Johnson with Moose Rites delivered by members of the Newport News Moose Family Center #1119. The family will receive friends following the service at Warwick Moose Family Center #1711, 1711 Moose Lane, Newport News, Va.
