Matthew Craig "Matty" Mills

Matthew Mills Obituary

CHESAPEAKE - Matthew 'Matty' Craig Mills, 15, passed away unexpectedly at his home, Monday, Aug. 25, 2008.
Born in Norfolk, he was the son of Craig and Sandra Senft Mills. He was predeceased by his sister, Hannah Marie Mills; his maternal grandparents, Frank and Ellie Senft; and his paternal grandfather, Bill Mills.
Matty was a rising 10th grade honor student at Hickory High School, and received numerous academic awards. He was an active, devoted, Baptized member of St. Stephen, Martyr Catholic Church. He was a great first baseman for the Legal Eagles of the Chesapeake Challenger Little League baseball team. Matty was invited to play baseball on the White House lawn for President George W. Bush. He was a huge fan of the Redskins and loved any baseball team playing against the Yankees. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 48, an avid bowler, a great chef, a slick card player and loved to hunt and fish with his father and brother. His limitations never slowed him down. Matty lived the saying 'A stranger is just a friend you haven't met!' He was a friend and inspiration to many at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters.
Including his parents, Matty is survived by his brother, Patrick, and his little sister, Claire; his grandmother, Katy Mills of Seminole, Fla.; aunts and uncles, David and Judy Senft of CT, Patrick and Kathy Senft of CO, Dan and Amy Senft Ritter of NJ, Mark and Kim Mills Kirkby of Chesapeake, Kelly Mills of Chesapeake and Mike Mills of Richmond. Matty is also survived by his cousins, Jessica Kirkby Guptill, Alex and Elizabeth Kirkby, Mikayla Mills, Brendan Snyder, Jack, Maggie and Ellie Senft, Ian and Sean Senft.
He was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at St. Stephen, Martyr Catholic Church, 1544 Battlefield Blvd., S., Chesapeake. Monsignor Michael McCarron and the Rev. James Gordon will officiate. A reception will follow the Mass at the church. The interment will be private.
The family received friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Matty Mills Scholarship Fund at Monarch Bank, 1034 South Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23322. The scholarship is intended to benefit a special needs student.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the wonderful doctors and staff at Chesapeake Pediatrics and CHKD.
