Juliet Bohannon Obituary

SHACKLEFORDS - Juliet "Julie" S. Bohannon, 76, of "Lake Pond" in Shacklefords, Va., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008.
Julie was born May 11, 1932, in Jackson Heights, N.Y., to Hellmuth and Alma Schuenemann. She moved to Gloucester, Va., as a teenager where she met W.R. Bohannon Jr., who declared upon first seeing her, he would marry her one day, and he did. Julie spent the first part of her adult years as a "domestic engineer,' raising their four children and assisting her husband in his sawmill and logging business. She dedicated her time to supporting her family in all of their endeavors. Julie was a member of the West Point United Methodist Church, where she held countless leadership positions. As her children grew, Julie began her diverse "working career" which included being the Senior Buyer for Chesapeake Corp., the Treasurer for the Town of West Point, and an owner of Bohannon Lumber Co. Julie was very involved in Kiwanis and served as President of the Kiwanis Club of West Point, and Lt. Gov. of the Capitol District. Julie was awarded the Hixson Award, becoming the first female to receive this prestigious award in The West Point Kiwanis Club. She also loved to travel, and visited all 50 states as well as several European countries. Ultimately, her most immediately endearing characteristic, Julie's smile, will be missed by many.
Julie was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, W.R. Bohannon Jr.; her parents, Hellmuth and Alma Schuenemann; and her in-laws, Willie Sr. and Mildred Bohannon.
She is survived by an amazingly compassionate and loving fiancE, Tom Whitmore; her daughter, Jane Vosnick and her husband, Tommy; three sons, Steve Bohannon, David Bohannon and his wife, Cindy, as well as Bill Bohannon and his wife, Teresa, who was genuinely devoted to Julie. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Tara, Christie, Steven, Matt, Kyle, Dana, Kristen, Kelly and Rachael; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Autumn and Ava; a brother, Ted Schuenemann of Roseville, Calif.; and a sister, Mary Lou Lindquist-Hume of Alexandria, Va.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at the West Point United Methodist Church, 1020 Main St., West Point, Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Virginia, P.O. Box 2098, Tappahannock, VA, 22560, or to Lower King & Queen Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 413, Mattaponi, VA, 23110.

Beautiful Julie was an incredibly elegant woman. She was so loving and always concerned about everyone else, even throughout her illness. I feel very fortunate that I was able to spend a week with my aunt just recently and enjoy her sense of humor and sweet spirit. She meant alot to me and always kept in touch from across the country. Her family in California will miss her dearly and remember the times we shared. Her bright laughter and smile will remain in our hearts.

Grammy was always filled with so much love, joy & laughter. I will miss her sooo much words cannot explain. Her smile always made you smile. I feel so blessed to have been able to spend the time that I did with Grammy. I was able to say goodbye and so I feel at peace. Grammy is in a better place now and she's with my Poppop in heaven smiling down at me. Grammy you might not be here on earth with me but I will always carry wonderful memories with me and hold you close to my heart. RIP Grammy "Dearest"

Dear Bill, Theresa and Family,
Jim and I were so sorry to learn of your loss this morning. I have been out of town a lot in the last few weeks and have not been in touch with Theresa as much as usual. Unfortunately, Jim and I leave town tonight for a week and we will not be able to attend the funeral or come by to see you all. We will be by to see when we return. It is hard to loose our parents but at least we know that they are in a better place and free of pain. Take care. We will see you soon.

Our condolences to everyone that knew this beautiful lady. A lady she was. There are so many wonderful memories. One of the things that will be missed is seeing her at the post office with that contagious smile that she always shared. She always had one to give away. We will share in the grief of missing her tremendously. Words can not express the sorrow felt, but our prayers for comfort to all that knew her and loved her will continue. We pray that the memories of all her goodness will overflow in our hearts and with that overflow of what she gave to all of us, we will in turn share it with others. May her legacy live on in everyone she touched.

A Reminiscence

YES, thou art gone! and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee.

May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.

Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;

To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine,
Has gladdened once our humble sphere.
