Joseph Dupree Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Rev. Joseph Dupree, 94, of 1301-18th Street, Newport News, Va., quietly met the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008.
He was employed and retired from the Newport News Shipyard and Peninsula Engineering Company.
He was the founder and pastor of The Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church, Newport News, Va., before retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie L. Dupree.
Joseph leaves to cherish his memories, five daughters, Marcy Whitfield-Perkins (Shelton), Shirley Whitfield-Smith, Mattie Whitfield, Linda Whitfield-Allison, and Bambi Mohammed (Gabriel); one sister, Susie Watson; two brothers, Albert Dupree and Jessie Dupree; a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews; four sisters-in-law, Francis Horton, Manda Thompson, Grace Thompson, and Alice Aytch; a special friend, Cecil Ross; other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held noon to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th St. NN, VA. 23607. A celebration of life will be held noon Saturday, Sept. 6, at the funeral chapel. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cookebros.com.
A special thanks to Dr. Raines and the nursing staff of James River Convalescent Center, NN, Va., for the care given during his long illness.
