Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Dear Edward (“Beany”) Orie, Jr.,
On Monday morning September 8th, God allowed your dad and my brother, Edward (“Cooten”) Leon Orie, Sr., to take his final journey on the road of life. The road of life has never-ending inclinations, twists, and turns, bruises and sorrow. God is the ultimate navigator of all roads that we travel. Unfortunately, there comes times when we have to question God on why he navigated our love ones to the end of the road so swiftly. There are mysteries at the end of the road that leaves hollow void and relentless tears. We travel on the road of life with anticipation that we will live forever with our love ones. However, God had already predestinated our final walk on the road of life.
It is unfortunate that lives have to come to the end of the road when it seems like everything is going splendid. I commend you “Beany” on the strength and faith that you had towards your dad as he was gradually approaching the end of the road. I remember vividly how positive your attitude was on your dad coming back home. You exemplified courage and strength as your own road began to detour. I want you to be self-assured and boldly walk your own road of life accomplishing all your dreams, hopes and aspiration. Please cherish the wonderful memories that you and your dad shared.
I personally will cherish the fond memories that I shared with your dad on the road of life. I will remember him for the entertaining stories he told, his delicious homemade ice cream and scrumptious soft yeast rolls. It is astounding that the road we shared had bumps, but it is certain that the love was always there. He touched many precious lives including mine and I will miss him profoundly.
He is no longer walking the streets of Newport News, Virginia, but one day he will walk the streets paved in gold with our Heavenly Father. I know you deeply loved your Father, “Beany,” but remember God loved him even more. God’s eye is on the sparrow therefore he will continue to watch over you.
Love your aunt,
Elnora Orie-Robinson
